Weave

Design Manager

San Francisco Bay Area, CA Full Time

Why Weave Exists

At Weave, our mission is to evolve how therapeutic knowledge is captured, transformed, and communicated throughout drug development. We do this by equipping human experts with AI instruments to enable drugs to be brought to patients as rapidly, safely, and inexpensively as possible.

The Weave Platform streamlines regulatory workflows from start to finish by intelligently, creatively, and effectively infusing every step with AI. Together with our customers, Weave is designing and building the AI workbench for the entire therapeutic lifecycle.

The Role & Your Mission

We are seeking a Design Manager to lead and grow our design team, reporting to our CEO. You will guide a small, high-impact team building an AI-native platform to drive regulatory workflows in drug development. User experience is a key challenge and differentiator in bringing AI to drug development, and Weave is on the frontline, having established a reputation for outstanding usability, simplicity, and intuitiveness. The remit of our Design Manager is to burnish that reputation: protect what we have, guide further development of highly usable AI-infused workflows, and champion design culture throughout the organization. This is an opportunity to cultivate a world-class model of human-AI interaction in Weave’s user experience.

This role pairs strategic leadership with hands-on excellence: you will oversee the full design function while maintaining mastery across research, UX, and UI. As a player coach you will be expected to roll up your sleeves while also guiding and growing your team through what will continue to be a scrappy and rewarding phase of company growth.

What You'll Own

  • Lead & mentor the design team: Provide direction, feedback, and coaching to help designers grow and deliver outstanding work.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment: Partner closely with product and engineering to set priorities, refine workflows, and ensure cohesive execution.
  • Guide research & UX strategy: Oversee user research and ensure insights translate into intuitive, effective end-to-end experiences.
  • Maintain a high bar for UI craft: Uphold strong visual standards and contribute hands-on design work when needed.
  • Evolve the design system: Ensure our design system scales with the product and supports fast, consistent iteration.

What You’ll Bring

  • Design virtuoso turned leader: You possess a refined aesthetic sense and deep UX expertise, with a portfolio demonstrating mastery—and the ability to coach others toward that same level.
  • Experienced in B2B complexity: You’ve designed for complex B2B SaaS products, ideally in life sciences, drug development, or regulated industries.
  • Scientifically conversant: You’re fluent in the concepts our customers work with and can guide the team in translating technical workflows into elegant product experiences.
  • Empathetic, inquisitive leader: You naturally question how people think and work, and you help your team build understanding and empathy into every decision.
  • Pragmatic decision-maker: You know when to explore, when to converge, and how to guide teams through ambiguity with clarity and momentum.
  • 7+ years of product design experience, with at least 2+ years managing or leading designers, ideally in B2B SaaS environments.
Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and inspire design teams while remaining hands-on in your craft.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing excellence in UX, UI, and end-to-end product design.
