Design Evaluation Engineer

The RF Design Evaluation group, based in Limerick, Ireland, is part of the RF Semiconductors (RFS) division within the Aerospace & Defence & Communications (ADC) Business Unit of Analog Devices. The group works in conjunction with the design, applications and test development teams to develop high-performance RF and microwave components. These products include stand-alone integer-N and fractional-N PLL synthesizers, as well as more highly integrated products comprising PLLs, VCOs, LNAs, mixers, modulators, filters and up/down converters.

The main application areas for these products are wireless infrastructure (base stations, microwave point-to-point backhaul links), radar systems and microwave test and measurement equipment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design evaluation board hardware to interface with test instruments and communicate with the device under test.
  • Develop bench evaluation software to perform measurement sweeps during the device characterisation phase.
  • Identify suitable equipment and develop new measurement methodologies to better aid the evaluation process.
  • Independently evaluate, characterise and troubleshoot mixed-signal bench setups and test solutions.
  • Compile measurement reports and summaries that can be shared with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Format, analyse and draw valid conclusions from measurement data, and present product improvement recommendations to the wider development team as required.
  • Work closely with the on-site Design, Applications and Test Development groups to ensure products meet customer requirements and are released to market within the agreed product development schedule.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s/primary degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, network analysers and power meters (full training will be provided).
  • Familiarity with Python scripting to automate bench measurements using test instruments.
  • General knowledge of RF measurements such as compression, phase noise, gain, spurious emissions, S-parameter measurements and noise figure.
  • Strong troubleshooting, rework and sound judgement skills.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
