Design Engineer

DeRegt Cables is -and has been- a prominent name in the design and manufacture of custom-engineered, specialty, dynamic or static cable solutions used in subsea applications. These have been applied in many areas, including the Oil & Energy sector, Defence, Seismic Exploration, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV's) and Renewable Energy projects. DeRegt is part of Sercel, the Sensing & Monitoring business line of Viridien, an advanced technology, digital and Earth data company.

Job Summary

As a Design Engineer at DeRegt, you will transform customer needs into cutting-edge designs for some of the world’s most advanced cable systems. Your work will span a remarkable variety of applications—from Variable Depth Sonar and Neutrino Detectors to Wave Energy Converters, ROVs, deep-sea mining systems, and even hot air balloons. Here, no cable system is the same and neither is your day!

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyze new products that meet demanding technical and performance requirements.
• Prepare cost estimates and collaborate closely with the Design Manager and engineering team to solve technical challenges.
• Develop and execute test setups to validate your designs in practice.
• Manage the technical scope, schedule, and budget of your projects, providing customers with clear and regular updates.
• Stay current with new technologies and materials, proactively identifying innovative applications and potential solutions.

Qualifications:

• HBO or WO degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in product development.
• No prior experience with cable systems is required; full training will be provided.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, production processes, and material behavior.
• Ability to work in a structured and analytical manner, with strong problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and develop creative, practical solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English, as 95% of our customers are international.
