Design Engineer III

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex electrical systems, including advanced protection and control circuits, ensuring manufacturability, reliability, safety, and serviceability.
  • Perform advanced component selection such as CT/PT sizing, protection logic development, and integration of control logic for high‑reliability applications.
  • Independently design complete control, metering, and automation schemes, including system logic, interlocks, alarms, manual overrides, and multi‑source metering accuracy.
  • Drive integration of sophisticated control systems by defining I/O mapping, supporting advanced logic development, and ensuring seamless communication between field devices and supervisory systems.
  • Interpret and apply ANSI, IEEE, and other relevant standards to ensure regulatory compliance across all project phases. Facilitate risk assessments and guide junior engineers through compliance reviews.
  • Lead optimization efforts for complex electrical assemblies—balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and innovation. Introduce new technologies where appropriate.
  • Design and validate complete protection schemes, including backup logic, interlocks, and coordination studies. Review and validate relay settings and ensure full fault‑coverage requirements are met.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional integration by aligning electrical design with mechanical constraints, manufacturing processes, and quality standards.
  • Provide technical support for complex field issues, collaborate with service teams, and ensure customer feedback is incorporated into future design improvements.
  • Utilize advanced CAD Electrical tools to develop panel layouts, macros, and complex assemblies while managing design data via PDM systems.
  • Use SAP for BOM creation and structuring, variant configuration, and engineering change management in collaboration with production planning and procurement.
  • Use Excel for data analysis and reporting; develop professional documentation and presentations using Word and PowerPoint; maintain collaborative content in OneNote and SharePoint.
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and stakeholder meetings with confidence. Clearly articulating design decisions, constraints, risks, and trade‑offs.
  • Align project priorities and decisions across teams through clear, persuasive communication, ensuring strategic and technical alignment.
  • Evaluate complex design scenarios through a balanced lens of innovation, compliance, and performance identifying opportunities for improvement and creative engineering solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers through technical guidance, design review feedback, and knowledge‑sharing to foster their professional growth.
  • Deliver clear, structured, and impactful presentations during risk assessments, design reviews, and stakeholder meetings.

Qualification / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • 8–12 years of hands‑on experience in electrical design engineering, with demonstrated expertise in protection, control, and complex system integration.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to lead technical discussions, drive alignment, and influence decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong proficiency in designing advanced protection and control circuits, control logic, and complete system-level electrical schemes.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply ANSI, IEEE, and other industry standards.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD Electrical tools, panel layout development, macros, and PDM systems.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP for BOM structuring, variant configuration, and engineering change processes.
  • Strong skills in Excel for data analysis; proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, and SharePoint for documentation and communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to handle complex design challenges independently.
  • Should be familiar with all industrial standards on switchgear design like CSA#31, UL#508, UL#1558, UL#891, ANSI# C37.20.2.
