The California Post, the bold new West Coast expansion of the New York Post, is seeking a Deputy Opinion Editor to support the Opinion Editor in managing and shaping our editorial page. This role is key to the daily operation of the opinion section, assisting with editing, commissioning, and curating pieces while helping maintain the California Post’s distinctive editorial stance.
The Deputy Opinion Editor will work closely with the Opinion Editor, columnists, and freelance contributors to ensure high-quality, engaging commentary across digital, print, and social platforms. This position is ideal for an editor with sharp judgment, strong editing skills, and a passion for driving debate and discussion in California and beyond.
Responsibilities:
Support the Opinion Editor in managing the editorial page and day-to-day operations of the opinion section
Edit op-ed columns, and editorials for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the Post’s voice and standards
Evaluate unsolicited submissions and assist in commissioning timely op-eds, particularly in response to breaking news
Maintain relationships with contributors and help identify new voices for the section
Assist with curating content for digital, print, and social platforms with an eye toward engagement and discoverability
Participate in editorial board discussions and contribute ideas for the section’s strategy and direction
Write or co-author unsigned editorials or opinion pieces as needed
Requirements:
At least 7 years of newsroom or editorial experience, with a background in opinion editing or commentary
Strong editing skills and the ability to sharpen arguments for clarity, accuracy, and impact
Excellent news judgment and familiarity with California and national politics, culture, and current events
Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards
Familiarity with digital publishing, SEO, and audience engagement practices
Collaborative mindset and ability to work closely with the Opinion Editor, contributors, and newsroom colleagues
Maintain a strong network of industry contacts and resources
An understanding of and alignment with the Post’s editorial stance
Note: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week.

Pay Range: $120,000 - $150,000
