Job Description: 

As a Deputy Manager – Database Engineering, you will lead the design, optimization, and delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms and reporting solutions using SQL Server, Azure Data Platform, and modern data integration tools. You will provide technical leadership in database architecture, data engineering, and reporting while remaining deeply hands-on in development, performance tuning, and production support. You will collaborate closely with Product, Analytics, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders to enable reliable, data-driven decision-making. Experience or knowledge of IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) and reverse logistics processes is highly desirable.

Your role:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Own end-to-end database and data platform design, including architecture, development, deployment, and production support.
  • Lead efforts to stabilize and optimize L1 (first level) and L3 (third level) data systems, improving performance, reliability, and incident resolution.
  • Define standards and best practices for database design, data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and reporting frameworks on Azure.
  • Provide technical oversight, lead code reviews, and ensure data quality, security, and performance across all database systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across databases, pipelines, and reporting layers; lead incident and problem management.
  • Design and implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure high availability and business continuity.

Data Engineering & Reporting Solutions

  • Design, develop, and optimize complex SQL/T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects for high-volume systems.
  • Build and manage scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and related Azure services.
  • Develop and maintain data models, data warehouses, and data marts optimized for reporting and analytics.
  • Enable and support enterprise reporting solutions by delivering curated, high-quality datasets for BI tools such as Power BI.
  • Work closely with analytics and business teams to translate reporting requirements into efficient data solutions.
  • Implement and maintain data integration workflows using SSIS and modern Azure-based alternatives.
  • Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and data storage for large-scale datasets.
  • Leverage Azure services such as Azure SQL Database, Blob Storage, Cosmos DB, and Synapse Analytics for scalable data solutions.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and automation for data pipelines and database health.
  • Champion Agile methodologies and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Apply domain knowledge of ITAD and reverse logistics workflows to design data models and reporting solutions that support asset lifecycle management.

What you bring to the role:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred) with 10–14 years in database engineering and data platform development.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL and T-SQL with strong experience in performance tuning and optimization.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) and end-to-end data pipeline orchestration.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing data warehouses, data marts, and reporting layers.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Blob Storage, Cosmos DB, and related Azure data services.
  • Solid understanding of database architecture, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization techniques.
  • Experience delivering datasets and supporting enterprise reporting tools such as Power BI.
  • Strong knowledge of DBA operations including backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with SSIS or similar data integration tools.
  • Familiarity with IT Asset Disposition (ITAD), reverse logistics, and related business processes.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical and business stakeholders.
