The Heidelberg Materials (HM) International Business Service Centre (BSC) provides high‑quality administrative, transactional and accounting services to Heidelberg Materials companies across multiple countries.
We are looking for a Deputy Head of Controlling & Reporting to play a pivotal role within the BSC leadership structure. This role will use deep financial expertise and strong business understanding to deliver meaningful analysis, support strategic decision‑making, and enhance overall business performance. Working closely with the BSC Senior Leadership Team, the role will influence key decisions by collecting, analysing and presenting accurate financial and end‑to‑end process information across an expanding international footprint.
The Role
As Deputy Head of Controlling & Reporting, you will support the effective financial management of the International BSC, providing robust financial insight, oversight of reporting and controls, and acting as a trusted finance partner to senior stakeholders. You will also lead and deliver international consultancy activity, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure that reporting, controls and governance frameworks operate effectively and in line with Group standards.
Key Accountabilities
BSC Finances
- Support delivery of financial and operational performance for the International Business Service Centre
- Manage, develop and stimulate planning and forecasting processes, providing management with reliable forward‑looking business information
- Ensure provision of accurate, relevant and timely financial and management information to support decision‑making
- Deliver high‑quality financial and business analysis to identify and manage risks and opportunities
- Oversee production of monthly accounts, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with company policies, controls and accounting standards
- Ensure BSC‑to‑client contracts are completed for new clients and maintained accurately for existing clients
Consultancy
- Deliver a wide range of consultancy projects on an international basis
- Act as a subject‑matter expert on group standard systems, processes and international accounting standards
- Leverage the BSC and wider Group expert network to support consultancy assignments
- Undertake international travel as required, by agreement with the Managing Director
Presentations & Analysis
- Prepare complex and technical analysis, including root‑cause analysis on matters arising across the BSC
- Work closely with the Director’s Office to propose solutions and oversee implementation of agreed actions
- Prepare and deliver high‑quality presentations for senior leadership, including Group Board members, covering BSC processes, projects and financial performance
Controlling & Reporting
- Oversee the controls and compliance framework, including efficient design of testing activities, monitoring progress and driving remediation
- Ensure timely identification and escalation of emerging control risks, supported by clear and insightful reporting
- Oversee all reporting services, ensuring regular and ad‑hoc reports are accurate, timely and aligned with internal and Group requirements
- Drive continuous improvement across reporting processes, including automation, standardisation and efficiency enhancements
Role Scope & Scale
- Responsibility covering all BSC client countries (currently 17 and growing)
- BSC size: c.250+ FTE, turnover c.£10m
- Line management responsibility for up to 3 direct reports
About You
- Qualified accountant (or able to demonstrate equivalent technical accounting knowledge)
- Strong experience in controlling, reporting, or financial management within a complex, multi‑entity or international environment
- Demonstrated ability to provide insightful financial analysis and influence senior stakeholders
- Strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance frameworks
- Experience of driving process improvement, standardisation and automation
- Confident communicator, comfortable presenting complex information to senior leadership and Board‑level audiences
- Able to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving business environment
