Deputy Head, Learning Community (Year 3)

About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the leadership and ongoing development of a Central Learning Community within the UQ Medical School. As Deputy Head of the Learning Community (Year 3), you will play a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive, supportive and high-performing learning environment where medical students are supported to flourish academically, professionally and personally. Working collaboratively with academic clinicians, professional staff and students, you will provide visible educational leadership within a vibrant clinical teaching context aligned to UQ’s purpose of creating change together.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to: 

  • Provide academic leadership and coordination of Year 3 learning experiences, including clinical immersion, assessment, remediation, pastoral care and career guidance.

  • Contribute to high-quality face-to-face clinical teaching and assessment, supporting students’ professional identity formation and clinical capability.

  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the quality of teaching, learning and engagement within the Learning Community.

  • Support staff capability through mentoring, supervision, professional development and contribution to staff training activities.

About You 

  • Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with a specialist qualification recognised by: AHPRA

  • PhD or equivalent in the disciplinary area, or an appropriate combination of professional and academic service relevant to the field.

  • An established profile in clinical teaching.

  • Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.

  • Expert discipline knowledge and extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination of new and innovative clinical techniques.

  • A record of peer reviewed publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences, in conjunction with evidence of contribution towards successful applications for external research funding.

  • A strong track record of participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

  • A solid record of contribution to the supervision of trainees in clinical speciality training programs.

  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with demonstrated leadership roles in external activities that foster links within the profession and the relevant specialty, including developing consultancies in speciality areas.
