We are now looking for a Department Manager for Systems Engineering – a strategically critical leadership role with responsibility for shaping, governing and developing the technical systems that are fundamental to the future of Boliden Mines’ operations and processing plants.
Your mission
As Head of Systems Engineering, you hold a business‑area‑wide responsibility for systems engineering and technical development within Boliden Mines. You ensure that technical systems, architectures and ways of working support safety, sustainability and business value – both in daily operations and from a long‑term strategic perspective.
You are given a clear mandate to set direction, define priorities and create common frameworks for technological development in close collaboration with operations, investment projects, IT/OT and external partners.
Key responsibilities
Set strategic direction and priorities for systems engineering and technical development within Boliden Mines
Establish, govern and continuously develop system strategies, standards and common ways of working
Lead and develop the department’s three sections as well as senior key roles
Ensure effective collaboration between operations, investment projects, IT/OT and R&D
Translate technological opportunities within areas such as electrification, automation and digitalisation into robust operations and long‑term business value
About the Systems Engineering department
Systems Engineering is part of Boliden Mines’ technical organisation and acts as a strategic hub between operations, technology development, investments and research.
The department is responsible for the development and governance of technical systems across both mines and processing plants and is organised into three complementary sections:
Electrification & Automation, Mobile Machines (MOB) – electrified, autonomous and safe mobile systems underground and above ground
Electrification, Instrumentation & Automation (EIA) – fixed installations, infrastructure, OT systems, standards and regulatory compliance within electrical and automation disciplines
Process Control & Analysis (PCA) – advanced process control, modelling and data analytics for optimised and resource‑efficient production
Qualifications
Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent, alternatively corresponding relevant professional experience
Several years of experience from managerial and leadership roles within technical or industrial environments
Proven experience of leading change initiatives and strategic technology shifts in complex organisations
Experience of operational management including budgeting, follow‑up and prioritisation
Background from mining, process industry or other heavy industrial operations
Broad technical systems understanding within one or more of the areas systems engineering and automation, electrical systems and electrification, advanced process control and industrial IT/OT
Very strong communication skills in both Swedish and English, written and spoken
Meriting experience
Experience of working close to operations and on‑site environments
Experience of leading specialist and expert organisations
Deep expertise within automation, OT/IT, electrification or process control
Electrical authorisation (EL A or AL)
Experience of R&D collaboration with universities, research institutes or similar organisations
Leadership and way of working
Confident and decisive in uncertain and complex environments
Strategic, long‑term perspective combined with a pragmatic and operations‑oriented approach
Structured and analytical, with the ability to translate technology into tangible operational and business outcomes
Builds trust, engagement and clear direction through collaboration and transparent communication
