Job Summary: The Community Care Consult Coordinator Dentist of the Dental Service of the HAMV AMC is responsible for assisting with the vision, mission and scope of the service and assuring effective Community Care service functions in support of the mission, vision, and goals of the Department of Veterans Affairs, YISN 6, and the HAMVAMC. Consistent with these responsibilities, the Community Care dentist reports directly to the HAMYAMC Dental Service Chief

Major Duties:

  • This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2026 or until all positions are filled. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be 15 May 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every two weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred to at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Major Duties and Responsibilities to include but not be limited to: The General Dentistry dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competence to perforn1 the following: Position will be 90% administrative duties and 10% clinical. Assisting with the Community Care dental services of HAMVAMC and all facilities within the VISN 6 Sustaining policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of dental services. Continuously assessing and improving the performance of community care and services provided. Maintaining quality control programs, as appropriate. Orienting and providing continuing education of all people involved with the dental community care program. Designating a person to act in his/her absence so that community care services are always provided. Evaluating any recommendations from HAMYAMC committees and consultants. Maintaining ongoing liaison with the governing body, with other clinical staff, and with administrative staff through regularly scheduled meetings and periodic reports. Diagnose pathological or in-regular oral conditions. Work with community dentists to review and either approve or disapprove their treatment plans. 50 RFS (ADA forms) must be entered daily to meet performance standards. All urgent requests, YEO request (PATS, White House, Congressional, and internal to service PATS) must be entered on the same day. Work Schedule: 7:30AM-4:00PM - Monday - Friday, 40 hours/per week Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications: Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~ Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Additional Requirements: Has completed an American Dental Association approved one or two-year dental general practice residency and/or has IO or more years of professional practice clinical experience. Understands dental coding as contained in the Current Dental Terminology handbook (CDT) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Preferred Requirements: Knowledge and understanding of the VA community care dental program.
