Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, assists staff and students in the treatment of patients. Assists in the instruction of dental students. Prepares and sets up instruments and materials. Ensures compliance with infection control. Schedules appointments. Compile reports. Ensures maintenance and supply of equipment and materials.
 

Assists in the Pre-Clinic with a range of tasks:

  • Laboratory tasks requiring to pour models / trim models for lab exercises. Number of models often exceeding 100.

  • Demonstrate to students how to pour models / trim models.

  • Work with extracted teeth.

  • Take radiographs on extracted teeth.

  • Oral surgery tasks requiring to work with animal parts – tongues / jaws.

  • Help setting up practical exams.

  • Help maintaining all equipment in simulation lab / plaster room.

  • Clean the plaster room with the help of the students.

  • Guide students with their practical requirements – appliances / dentures / custom trays etc.

  • Take alginate impressions

  • Pour impressions – knowledge of different stones. Type 1 / 2 /3 /4 / stone

  • Trim models to specifications

  • Mount models on articulator

  • Fabricate surgical stent – surgical guide

  • Knowledge of denture teeth – choose correct molds

  • Fabricate custom trays – border molding / wax rims / teeth placement

  • Fabricate ortho appliances – Essix retainers

  • Placement of bands & bracketts for ortho

  • Fabricate athletic mouth guards

  • Fabricate bleaching trays (whitening)

  • Fabricate vacu shells for temporization

  • Use putty for temporization

  • Wax up teeth
