POSITION SUMMARY:
Collaboratively provides a wide variety of closely coordinated, interdependent patient centered oral health care
services. This includes chair side assisting, clerical duties, including scheduling and answering the telephone and accommodative services with the dental manager, dental hygienists, dentists, dental residents and others pursuant to objectives, policies and protocols of St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, the Primary Care Centers and the Dental Office.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
High school diploma or equivalent. One year of dental assisting school or equivalent work experience required.
Courses should include dental/medical terminology, radiology, updated infection control guidelines, communication skills, grammar, and basic computer skills. Certification in dental assisting (CDA) and New York State licensure is desirable. Minimum of one year experience as an assistant in a general dental practice or health care agency is preferred.
Participates in orientation and continuing education and updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Working knowledge of dental terminology and care and operation of dental equipment and supplies. Good communication, organizational and time management skills. Requires long periods of concentration.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
Office/Clinical setting. Exposure class I. May come in contact with patients who bite, scratch or are combative.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium work: requires standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing and pulling.
WORK CONTACT GROUP:
All services, staff, physicians, patients, visitors, vendors, contractors, and various regulatory and professional agency staff.
Pay Range: $17.85 - $25.90
Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
