Ready to make a difference?
We are seeking a Demand Response & Load Management Specialist (Non-residential) to support the design, startup, scaling, and delivery of commercial, industrial, and agricultural (C&I/Agricultural) demand response and flexible load management programs across the United States.

This role combines program operations execution with solutioning and offering development. The successful candidate will work directly with nonresidential customers and utility clients to identify, enable, and operate flexible load across diverse facility types—including warehouses, campuses, and commercial buildings, farms, and processing facilities —while also helping build, standardize, and scale nonresidential demand response capabilities nationwide.
You will bring a blend of engineering fundamentals, facility energy management experience, and strong customer facing skills. This is a hands-on, client facing consulting role with increasing responsibility for program startup, operational excellence, and contribution to national scale offerings.

Why you will love working here

  • Quality of life: Flexible workplace arrangements and emphasis on work–life balance
  • Investment in the community: Donation matching and volunteer opportunities
  • Investment in you: Tuition reimbursement, professional development resources, 401(k) matching, Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • And many more (Ask your recruiter for details!)

What you will be doing:

Program startup, delivery, and operations

  • Support the startup and launch of nonresidential demand response and load management programs, including program design inputs, customer engagement strategies, operational processes, and performance tracking.
  • Play a hands-on role in program operations, including customer onboarding, event readiness, customer communications, issue resolution, and continuous program improvement.
  • Conduct facility level assessments to understand endues loads, controls, operating constraints, and customer priorities relevant to demand response and energy efficiency.
  • Work directly with commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers—such as farmers, facility managers, building engineers, custodial staff, and energy managers—to identify flexible load opportunities and support program participation.
  • Translate technical and engineering concepts into clear, practical guidance for nontechnical audiences.

Project management and client support

  • Manage project and program workstreams, including schedules, deliverables, subcontractors, budgets, and internal coordination.
  • Interface with utility clients on key deliverables, findings, and recommendations related to nonresidential load management programs.
  • Coordinate with multifunctional teams (program operations, engineering, analytics, marketing, and account management) to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of client work.
  • Contribute to reports, presentations, and analyses supporting program design, regulatory filings, and client decision-making.

Offering development and scaling

  • Support the development, refinement, and scaling of nonresidential demand response and load management offerings, including standard approaches, tools, and best practices.
  • Help identify emerging opportunities, technologies, and customer segments relevant to nonresidential flexible load.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposal development, scopes of work, case studies, and client presentations.
  • Share lessons learned from program implementation to inform continuous improvement and national scaling of offerings.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25%.

What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy, facilities management, environmental science, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in nonresidential energy programs, such as demand response, load management, energy efficiency, facility energy management, or related utility or consulting work (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

What we would like you to have:

  • Master’s degree (MA/MS/MEng) in a related field.
  • Handson experience with non-residential demand response programs, including program startup, customer enrollment, event operations, or performance analysis.
  • Experience with Distributed Energy Resource Aggregators and wholesale market participation.
  • Familiarity with building systems and industrial processes (e.g., HVAC, refrigeration, pumping, compressed air, process loads, controls, or agricultural equipment).
  • Experience with facility energy management systems (EMS), building automation systems (BAS), or control technologies used for demand response.
  • Knowledge of utility DSM programs, regulatory frameworks, and cost-effectiveness considerations for nonresidential programs.
  • Experience working with utilities, aggregators, or energy service providers.

Professional skills:

  • Ability to build trust and credibility with nonresidential customers across a wide range of roles and technical backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities paired with practical, customer oriented thinking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced consulting environment.
  • Ability to balance technical rigor with clear, concise communication.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and respect when handling customer and client information.
  • Initiative and interest in helping build, improve, and scale consulting offerings.
  • Willingness to learn and stay current on evolving demand response technologies, market rules, and best practices.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently and professionally engage a wide range of customer types.

This role offers an outstanding opportunity to work on the front lines of nonresidential demand response and flexible load management—combining program execution, customer engagement, and national scale offering development to deliver meaningful grid, customer, and decarbonization outcomes.
