Hamburg, Germany Full Time

Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.

Information about the position

The Fulfilment domain at Vinted Go covers three business lines: Offline verification for high-value fashion(1) and electronics (2) as well as our newest recommerce initiative (3).

The first two operate very similarly: We are currently operating two specialised hubs in London and Hamburg where the offline-verification services as well as the entire logistical process surrounding these services take place (e.g., admitting and re-packaging the item).

The third business line is just about to start and we aim to utilize Vinted's marketplace to resell orphaned parcels and scale the needed logistics in France (Lille) accordingly.

As a Decision Scientist in this fast expanding domain, you can drive significant impact across all three business lines as part of a cross-functional product team - working alongside Product Managers, Engineers and Designers. You will report to the team lead of Data Science & Analytics (Vinted Go Fulfilment).

In this role, you leverage your proximity to the data to proactively conduct analysis to detect potential bottlenecks, product improvements or new business opportunities and evaluate initiatives using statistical methods and simulations.

Concurrently, you will serve as the domain's go-to expert for all data-related ad-hoc requests and automated reports/dashboards, leveraging a deep, comprehensive understanding of the verification hub processes.

This job position offers the best of two worlds: A dynamic environment of a fast-changing startup where you can bring in your own ideas with the stability and resources of an established, profitable enterprise.

Within Data Science & Analytics at Vinted, we have three distinct roles. We believe that each role can make a similarly-sized business impact, and therefore our salary ranges are the same for all three roles. To better understand your role as a Decision Scientist, here are brief descriptions of each role in the department:

  • Decision Scientists are responsible for actionable insights, identifying and sizing opportunities, and developing automated tools that increase the quality of product and business decisions by applying statistical methods and data-driven decision making.
  • Data Scientists are responsible for identifying algorithmic opportunities, ensuring those opportunities are addressed in an optimal fashion and design, developing and maintaining production-grade statistical and machine learning algorithms.
  • Analytics Engineers are responsible for data curation: Translating data needs from stakeholders into architecting, building and maintaining efficient & reliable data models and pipelines.

In this position, you’ll

  • Collaborate with your team and direct stakeholders to identify opportunities and to gather business requirements which you then translate into data models
  • Propose and implement business performance metrics and set up monitoring
  • Enable your team and direct stakeholders to independently leverage data for business insights via self-service and dashboarding tools (Looker)
  • Ensure new business initiatives have been reviewed through the eyes of a decision scientist and proven impactful
  • Bring in data-driven ideas to improve the processes in the hubs and proactively flag issues
  • Ensure requests are answered and presented in an optimal fashion (e.g., in the form of an ad hoc deep-dive, experiment, dashboard, or automatically recurring analysis)
  • Define the requirements for A/B testing and analyse the results of the tests

About you

  • A good communicator who can present complex topics clearly and persuasively to different audiences
  • A proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced, constantly evolving business environment
  • Passionate about implementing structure where little exists

  • Statistically proficient (e.g. regression analysis, A/B testing)
  • Excellent at communicating in spoken and written English
  • Advantageous: familiar with a data transformation tool (e.g. dbt or dataform) and version control (git)
