Job Summary:
The Day Supervisor, Production is responsible for coordinating in-plant routine and turnaround maintenance activities; working with the training supervisor, plant superintendent, and supervisors to ensure the operations training program excels; and assists the Production Superintendent in ensuring the plants operate safely and reliably.
This position reports to the Production Superintendent but many of the activities must be directed toward improving maintenance productivity. The Day Supervisor, Production is expected to enhance scheduling of maintenance activities and operations activities to synergistically complete needed maintenance work in a safe and efficient manner.
Job Description:
The Day Supervisor, Production is responsible for coordinating in-plant routine and turnaround maintenance activities; working with the training supervisor, plant superintendent, and supervisors to ensure the operations training program excels; and assists the Production Superintendent in ensuring the plants operate safely and reliably.
Job Responsibilities:
Actively participates in programs that positively impact employee health, safety performance, and site safety programs.
Programs that improve the safe preparation of equipment for maintenance and safe repair of equipment by maintenance deserve special focus.
Helps to ensure plant operating parameters meet all state and federal environmental regulations and permit limitations as directed by the Environmental Department.
Helps to coordinate and direct the daily activities of the plant to ensure production metrics such as safety performance, product quality, budget compliance, product mix, and plant reliability are met or exceeded.
Functions as Superintendent when needed and works during nights or weekends in special situations to ensure start-up, shut-down, and extraordinary operating situations are managed properly.
Develops and maintains effective relationships with other departments to obtain the required assistance in meeting departmental objectives.
Coordinates maintenance activities on a day-to-day basis including, but not limited to:
Participating in routine work identifying area walk-downs.
Approves work requests.
Works with maintenance to plan and schedule maintenance work
Works with operations to ensure equipment is prepared for maintenance in a timely manner targeting maximum maintenance productivity without risking production unnecessarily.
Represents operations in maintenance planning and scheduling meetings.
Prioritizes work log and ensures the work hotlist is maintained properly. This position must report on hotlist planning progress and ensure work can be completed without extending outages unnecessarily.
Reviews work management KPIs with operations and maintenance.
Helps to ensure production rates, cost goals, and efficiency goals are met.
Communicates expectations and holds people accountable.
Fosters employee development and succession planning; encourages employee development, maintaining high employee morale.
Internal Controls:
Establishes and implements processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements. Ensure that established processes/procedures are followed as designed. Works to identify deficiencies in existing processes/procedures, make corrections or replace them with new ones and the extent to which such processes/procedures are being followed. Develop and implement corrective actions about department internal controls as necessary.
Successful incumbents will have:
Five years or more operations experience and attainment of Shift Supervisor, Maintenance Planner, or Engineer.
Effective leadership/people skills.
PSM experience including safety leadership and culture.
Understanding of operations role in supporting execution of projects and turnarounds.
Solid communication skills including the ability to effectively converse in English, compose written documents and interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
Familiar with applicable codes, regulations and standards.
Works in a safe manner that promotes the EHS goals of the plant and the company.
Effective organizational, time management and communication skills.
Availability and willingness to work in a team environment.
Proficient in basic computer skills (writing work requests, MOC’s, EWR’s, hazard ID’s, near-miss reports, spill reports and completing work hours in e-time.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
Leads by example and shares valuable experience to enhance development of other employees.
Must comply with all company policies and procedures.
Maintain and possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
