Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to provide our customers with the safe, reliable, affordable energy they depend on. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s west Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote. What does a Day Ahead Balancing Operator or Senior do for us?
The Day Ahead Balancing Operator or Senior works to reliably and economically balance the load and resources of a bulk power system on a day-ahead and short-term basis. The role forecasts load, as well as forecasts, analyzes, and evaluates power supply options, including Idaho Power generation resources, contracts, and wholesale purchases. The role develops and implements a daily load and resource plan that reliably and economically meets Idaho Power’s forecasted load while complying with all applicable regulations and requirements. The position performs scheduling and energy transactions with various counter parties, based upon market knowledge, that best optimizes Idaho Power's generation, market purchases, and transmission resources in a safe, reliable, and economic manner. This position negotiates and purchases power and transmission from other counterparties in the region. The position also provides information to support to real-time employees and other groups to support operation of the bulk power system. The job requires NERC certification, continuous training, and occasional travel.
In addition to the meaningful work we do, we offer work-life balance, competitive pay and benefits, an employee incentive plan, and both a 401k employer-match and a pension plan, making Idaho Power one of the best employers in the state.
