Location: Hybrid (Onsite presence in Adelphi, MD at minimum once a month)

The Data Steward plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, integrity, security, and usability of institutional data assets. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Master Data Management, this role partners with data owners, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define data standards, maintain metadata, monitor data quality, and support compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements. The Data Steward supports FAIR data principles—ensuring information is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—and contributes to the operationalization of data governance across the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data Quality Management — Monitor and maintain quality standards for assigned data domains to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

  • Data Governance Implementation — Apply and enforce governance policies, procedures, and controls to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance.

  • Data Documentation & Metadata Management — Maintain comprehensive data definitions, lineage, and metadata to enhance data discoverability and understanding.

  • Data Security & Compliance Support — Collaborate with IT security, legal, and compliance teams to ensure adherence to privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and FERPA.

  • Data Analysis, Reporting & Stewardship — Analyze data to identify trends and anomalies, provide insights, and communicate key metrics through dashboards and reports.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Data Literacy — Partner with business units to address data issues, understand needs, and promote data-driven decision-making.

  • Data Catalog & MDM Support — Maintain authoritative data definitions and stewardship workflows in platforms such as Microsoft Purview and Profisee; participate in the MDM Working Group.

  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Databricks

Education & Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Science and Technology, Library and Information Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in data management, governance, analytics, or a related field

  • Experience with Master Data Management or data governance programs

  • Familiarity with stewardship workflows, data lifecycle management, and data quality concepts

  • Experience with metadata or data catalog tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Atlan, or Informatica

Certifications:

  • Data governance or data management certifications such as CDMP or DAMA-related training

Preferred Experience Requirements:

Experience:

  • Experience in higher education or other regulated, data-intensive environments

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft, Workday, Salesforce, or D2L

  • Experience with FAIR principles, reference data management, and semantic metadata

  • Experience operating in Agile environments

Certifications:

  • Additional data governance, analytics, or cloud-related certifications (if applicable)

Hiring Range:

$80,000.00 - $95,000.00
