Role: Data Specialist/Industry Associate – Subject Matter Expert
 

The Team:
The Fundamentals team is responsible for the collection, validation, and enrichment of financial statement data for companies across the globe, spanning diverse sectors and geographies. Using a wide array of sources—including regulatory filings, company disclosures, stock exchanges, industry publications, and proprietary research tools—the team ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data displayed to clients on S&P Global platforms. Our data empowers clients worldwide to make informed business and investment decisions, and team members collaborate closely with global stakeholders and analysts to stay ahead of industry trends and best practices.

The Impact:
As an Industry Associate and Subject Matter Expert, you will play a pivotal role in guaranteeing the quality and reliability of our global financial fundamentals data. You will drive domain expertise, mentor colleagues, and champion process and technology improvements. Your contributions will directly influence the data experience of clients and support innovation initiatives, including automation and advanced analytics. This role offers opportunities to lead projects, design solutions for business challenges, and help upskill the team in both financial domain knowledge and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement), accounting principles, and disclosure analysis for companies worldwide.
  • Guide and mentor team members on complex data scenarios and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Present and execute ideas for enhancing data processes, leveraging automation, and integrating new technologies (e.g., SQL, Python, LLMs) to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage domain assessment reviews, identify training needs, and conduct regular sessions to elevate the team’s financial and technical capabilities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on data enhancement projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a key problem solver for escalated data and process issues, providing solutions based on best practices and industry standards.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on quality, productivity, and project progress as required.
  • Maintain high ethical standards and promote transparency, inclusivity, and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Support the onboarding and continuous development of new team members.
  • Embrace and drive change, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial statements, accounting standards, and fundamentals data processes for global companies (must have).
  • Demonstrated expertise in using data and automation tools such as SQL, Python, and familiarity with LLMs or other advanced technologies.
  • Experience in user acceptance testing, handling technical projects and writing business cases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to conceptualize and implement process improvements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Proven leadership in mentoring, training, or guiding teams.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, and able to deliver under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality.
  • Adaptability to work in a dynamic, global team environment and openness to change.

Preferred Experience/Qualification:

  • Postgraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel; hands-on experience with SQL, Python, or other automation tools is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to lean principles, process automation, Power Automate, or Six Sigma is an added advantage.
  • Prior experience in financial data operations, data quality, or process improvement projects.
