Job Description

Job Purpose
The Data Scientist will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of data-driven solutions to business problems. You will work with large and complex data sets, use advanced statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to extract insights and build predictive models. You will also mentor and guide the junior data scientists in the team.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of statistical and machine learning models for predictive analysis and data visualization
  • Develop and implement algorithms for advanced analytics, such as natural language processing, computer vision, and deep learning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business problems and translate them into data-driven solutions
  • Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and validate findings
  • Mentor and guide junior data scientists in the team
  • Stay up to date with the latest tools, techniques, and technologies in the field of data science
  • Communicate insights and findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders through reports, dashboards, and presentations
  • Work with the engineering team to deploy models in production environments

ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATION

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation of, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within Old Mutual and its subsidiaries. This includes execution of customer due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence, and maintaining data quality. Additionally, the role involves identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities, and escalating these concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for further action.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R, SQL, etc.)
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or Hive
  • Experience with cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure
  • Knowledge of software engineering principles and version control systems such as Git
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of junior data scientists.
  • Passion for data science and eagerness to learn new skills.

Education and Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or similar.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing statistical and machine learning models for predictive analysis and data visualization.
