About the Team
Join ING Belgium’s Tech BE organization, where data, AI, and engineering come together to solve real business and technology problems. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment combining Data Science, AI Engineering, and platform teams, operating in an agile and experimental setup like a startup within a large financial institution.
This internship is designed to be hands-on and learning-focused, while still delivering tangible value.
Internship Projects (Core Input)
You will work mainly on two concrete Data Science projects, aligned with ongoing initiatives in the organization:
Project 1 – Applied Data Science / Analytics
- Explore, clean, and analyze structured and semi-structured datasets
- Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies relevant to business or technology use cases
- Apply statistical methods and basic machine learning techniques
- Translate analysis results into clear insights and visualizations
Project 2 – Machine Learning / AI-Oriented Use Case
- Build and evaluate predictive or classification models
- Experiment with feature engineering and model tuning
- Validate model performance using appropriate metrics
- Collaborate with engineers to prepare models for integration or experimentation
Both projects emphasize learning-by-doing, data quality, and explainability rather than pure research.
What You’ll Do
As a Data Scientist Intern, you will:
- Work end-to-end on real data science problems (from data exploration to insights)
- Develop notebooks, scripts, and prototypes in Python
- Apply statistics, data analysis, and machine learning techniques
- Visualize and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborate closely with Data Scientists, AI Engineers, and DevOps teams
- Document assumptions, methodologies, and results in a clear way
