What you'll do:

We are seeking an exceptional Data Scientist to support data science, AI, and automation efforts across Geotab Vitality. This role is at the heart of our mission to shift driver behaviour at scale using data, AI, and behavioral science. You will be responsible for executing data science initiatives that power core parts of the business - from AI coaching and personalization in our product, to ROI analytics, engagement prediction, and automation that fuel growth and efficiency. You’ll collaborate with product, engineering, and R&D to design and productionize intelligent systems that make driving safer, more efficient, and more rewarding for millions of people globally.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Execute on the data science and AI roadmap, ensuring technical deliverables align with the broader product strategy.

  • Collaborate with Product and R&D to embed intelligence into driver touchpoints - contributing to AI-based feedback loops, personalized goals, and recommendations.

  • Conduct experimentation and model development that influence real-world behavioural change across safety, sustainability, and compliance.

  • Work closely with engineering to assist in integrating predictive models directly into product experiences and mobile apps.

  • Develop and refine machine learning models that enable adaptive, real-time driver coaching.

  • Build and maintain specific models for driver risk prediction and safety scoring, engagement and motivation tracking, personalized feedback loops (e.g. context-aware messages and tailored challenges) and goal-setting algorithms that evolve dynamically based on driver performance.

  • Translate behavioral science principles into mathematical models. (You will apply behavioral concepts to code to create habit-forming interventions).

  • Facilitate the transition of models from experimental prototypes to scalable production systems in collaboration with engineering.

  • Contribute to the maintenance of data pipelines and deployment frameworks to ensure they remain robust, secure, and efficient.

  • Utilize an experimentation framework to rapidly test and validate new behavior change hypotheses.

  • Develop connected, automated dashboards and data products that provide unified visibility across Sales, Customer Success and Product

  • Perform ROI analysis linking driver behavior improvements to fleet safety, fuel efficiency, and compliance outcomes.

  • Deliver data insights that help influence customer retention strategies and product roadmap decisions.

  • Leverage established best practices, codebases, and mentorship from the wider Geotab/Vitality network to solve unique challenges within the JV.

  • Act as the technical voice for data within Geotab Vitality - translating data complexity into clear decisions for business stakeholders.

  • Document data schemas, model logic, and processes to ensure a strong foundation.

What you'll bring to this role:

  • 1-5 years of progressive experience in data science, machine learning, or AI-driven product development.

  • Post- secondary Degree/Diploma in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related AI/ML discipline or a related field.

  • Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in related fields may be substituted.

  • Understanding of machine learning and operations research.

  • Able to execute tasks independently within the startup while knowing when to lean on parent-company experts for guidance on complex architectural decisions.

  • Thorough knowledge of Python, SQL, BigQuery, dbt, Vertex AI, TensorFlow or PyTorch, model serving and deployment (API-based, microservice frameworks), and data pipeline design and cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred).

  • Strong background in behavioral analytics or human performance optimization.

  • Experience embedding ML/AI models into live products, using/building business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau) and data frameworks, and taking models from the research phase to production implementation.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to simplify complex technical insights.

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem solve well-judged decisions.

  • Strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

  • Must stay relevant to technology and should have the flexibility to adapt to the growing technology and market demands.
