JOB MISSION:
We are looking for a Product Data Scientist with expertise in experimentation, causal inference techniques, and applied statistics to help measure the impact of our decisions across multiple areas of New Balance including demand planning, merchandising, and marketing. As part of the Data Science Center of Excellence, you’ll combine rigorous statistical thinking and data science expertise to build impactful models and champion best practices for experimental design, quasi-experimental and causal inference techniques. You will build and measure the impact of data science products that drive decisions at one of the most iconic brands in the world and work alongside world-class data scientists and leaders who value curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Design, implement, and analyze experimental tests across digital and retail touchpoints.
Develop frameworks to assess test validity, power, and sensitivity; build automated pipelines for experiment tracking and analysis.
Partner with data scientists, products, and business teams to prioritize and evaluate project ideas based on measurable business impact.
Apply advanced causal inference techniques (e.g., difference-in-differences, synthetic controls, propensity scoring, instrumental variables, causal forests) to measure the effect of interventions.
Develop reusable models and templates for estimating the incremental impact of decisions, campaigns, pricing changes, assortment shifts, store initiatives, etc.
Contribute to defining best practices for experimentation and causal inference across the organization.
Build, validate, and productionize statistical and machine learning models across multiple business domains focusing on measurable impact.
Explore, clean, and structure large-scale retail, transaction, and behavioral datasets from enterprise systems.
Follow robust MLOps best practices across feature engineering, model selection, validation, and monitoring.
Translate technical findings into clear narratives for stakeholders and deliver automated reporting to make model outputs and KPIs accessible to business teams.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:
3+ years of experience as a data scientist, applied statistician, or econometrician in a business setting (retail, e-commerce, or consumer products preferred).
Expertise causal inference techniques and experimental design.
Strong coding skills in Python (e.g., pandas, statsmodels, scikit-learn, CausalML, DoWhy) and SQL.
Deep understanding of statistical testing methodology, power analysis, and experiment diagnostics.
Proven ability to communicate statistical results to non-technical audiences.
Experience in a fashion retail or consumer brand environment will be added advantage
Familiarity with Bayesian methods (PyMC, Stan) and uplift modeling.
Experience integrating experiments with marketing or product analytics pipelines.
Background in econometrics, applied statistics, or a quantitative social science (PhD or MS preferred).

Flexible Work Schedule
For decades we have fostered a unique culture founded on our values with a particular focus on in-person teamwork and collaboration. Our North American hybrid model encourages rich in-person experiences, showcasing our commitment to teamwork and connection, while maintaining flexibility for associates. New Balance Associates currently work in office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Our offices are fully open, and amenities are available across our North American office locations. To continue our focus on hybrid work we have introduced “Work from Anywhere” (WFA) for four weeks per calendar year.
