Major Duties:

  • The Division of Analytics and Surveillance (DAS) in the FERC Office of Enforcement and Regulatory Accounting (OERA) is seeking a motivated and skilled Data Scientist. Leverage your skills in Python, R, and SQL to contribute towards DAS's wholesale electricity and natural gas surveillance and forensic analysis. As a Data Scientist, some of your typical work assignments may include: Developing and maintaining data pipelines using SQL/T-SQL, Python, R, Databricks, or Synapse. Using Power BI, R, Python, SQL to analyze data and implement quality control checks. Using GitHub for version control and to collaborate with teammates. Clearly presenting findings, approach, and processes to the team, the Division, or management orally and/or in writing.

Qualifications: To view the eligibility and qualification requirements of Data Scientist, GS-1560, please visit: Data Scientist For the GS-11: You can qualify based on your education, OR one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09level, OR have a combination of education and experience. Specialized experience is defined as: independently extracting, transforming, and integrating complex, multi-source datasets using Python, R, or SQL; developing reproducible data pipelines; and applying statistical or analytical techniques to produce and present insights, visualizations, and models that inform organizational decision making. For the GS-12: In addition to the education required for this position, you must have one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is defined as: experience designing and implementing automated data workflows and analytical products using Python, R, or SQL; integrating and validating large, complex, structured, and unstructured data from numerous internal and external sources; developing advanced data visualizations, statistical analyses, and models; and translating analytical results into actionable recommendations for senior staff or program stakeholders, both orally and in writing. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
