Data Scientist (AI-Enabled)

Svitzer Group Copenhagen HQ Full time

Data Scientist (AI-Enabled)

Nordhavn, Copenhagen, Denmark

At Svitzer, we are strengthening our data and analytics capabilities to deliver scalable, data-driven products and insights. We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist who actively leverages AI tools (e.g. Codex) to accelerate experimentation, improve model quality, and explore new ways of solving complex business problems.

You will join a high-impact technology team with end-to-end ownership of data-driven products and insights. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating data into actionable insights and building models while working with modern AI-enabled tools and practices.

About Svitzer

Svitzer is a leading global towage operator with 4,000+ colleagues and a fleet of 446 tugboats across 35+ countries, organised into four regions: Australia, AMEA, Europe, and Americas (South America). More about the role

You will take ownership of business data-driven use cases built on our cloud-based data platform (Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric), driving the development of models, insights, and decision support solutions.

The role is centered around the full data science lifecycle - from exploring and understanding data to building, validating, and operationalizing models that create business impact. Alongside this, you will contribute to engineering tasks such as building reliable data pipelines and ensuring solutions are scalable and production-ready, with a natural curiosity for working with large-scale data.

You will work closely with our data platform and engineering teams, combining strong analytical capabilities with a pragmatic approach to implementation.

We expect you to actively use AI tools end-to-end in your daily work - from exploration and experimentation to development, deployment, and optimization - and to continuously explore how AI can enhance both the quality and impact of your work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive data science use cases - from problem framing to delivering models and actionable insights.
  • Explore and analyze data to identify patterns, opportunities, and areas for business impact.
  • Develop, validate, and operationalize machine learning models and advanced analytics solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data-driven solutions and decision support.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining data pipelines and datasets required for analysis and model development (Python, PySpark).
  • Ensure solutions are production-ready, scalable, and reliable in collaboration with data engineering teams.
  • Work with modern development practices, including Azure DevOps CI/CD and version control, to deploy and maintain models.
  • Leverage AI and GenAI Actively use AI-assisted tools (e.g. Codex) across the full lifecycle—from exploration and experimentation to development, testing, and optimization.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI and advanced analytics to improve business processes and products.
  • Contribute to evolving best practices across data science, analytics, and engineering, in collaboration with your team.

Who we are looking for

We do not expect you to be an expert in all areas listed below. Some requirements are essential, while others describe the broader scope of the role. If you have a strong data science foundation, enjoy working hands‑on with data and models, and actively use AI in your daily work, we would be happy to hear from you - even if not every item applies.

  • Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks (e.g. PySpark).
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning models and/or advanced analytics solutions (e.g. Databricks, Azure Foundry).
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience in data exploration, statistical analysis, and problem-solving.
  • Experience working with deployments, including version control and Azure DevOps CI/CD practices.
  • Ability to work with and contribute to data pipelines and data preparation for analytical use cases.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted tools (e.g. OpenAI, Claude, Codex or similar) as an integral part of daily work.
  • Demonstrated ability and motivation to leverage AI end-to-end—from exploration and experimentation to model development, debugging, and optimization.
  • Ability to work independently and take end-to-end ownership.
  • Experience with Databricks and Spark-based environments.
