About the Consulting Practice
The Consulting Practice within the Government Technology Office of GovTech helps agencies resolve complex IT challenges and modernize systems with confidence. We bring together deep engineering, product, and design expertise to assess legacy environments, align stakeholders, and shape multi-year solutions that are human-centric, scalable, and delivered by GovTech and industry partners.

As a Data Science Consultant, you will be part of a high-impact team that works collaboratively with GovTech and public sector agencies to address the government’s most critical data and analytics challenges. You’ll also help shape the consulting practice and contribute to its growth.

Each team member is a leader in their domain and works collaboratively with GovTech teams and agencies to address the government’s most critical technology challenges. As a founding member, you’ll also shape this growing practice while working on diverse and impactful problems in the public sector.

  • Lead and advise agencies on data science strategy, analytics frameworks, and AI/ML adoption aligned with the Digital Government Blueprint (DGB2.0).

  • Translate business objectives into data-driven solutions using advanced analytics and machine learning.

  • Design and implement predictive models, optimization algorithms, and statistical analyses to solve complex policy and operational challenges.

  • Develop scalable data science workflows and integrate them into secure, cloud-based environments.

  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure robust data pipelines and quality datasets for modeling.

  • Establish best practices for model governance, fairness, and explainability in public sector contexts.

  • Guide agencies through greenfield and brownfield implementations, from problem definition to solution design.

  • Develop standardized approaches for assessments, discovery, and solutioning grounded in GovTech best practices.

  • Champion data science excellence and influence adoption of modern analytics practices across GovTech and Whole-of-Government.

You’ll thrive here if you

  • Enjoy solving complex problems with data-driven insights.

  • Can translate technical concepts into clear, non-technical language.

  • Focus on value and outcomes, not just technical solutions.

  • Influence through trust, collaboration, and clarity.

  • Love working upstream to define problems and shape the right solution.

[What we are looking for]

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related disciplines.

  • 8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied machine learning. You'll typically be at a Lead/Staff/Principal level Data Scientist in your organization.

  • Strong foundation in statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization.

  • Hands-on experience with Python or R, and proficiency in SQL.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).

  • Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) and data wrangling at scale.

  • Knowledge of MLOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and model deployment in production environments.

  • Understanding of data governance, security, and ethical AI principles.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Proven ability to mentor and develop future technical leaders.
