The Position

The Data Products Specialist plays a key role in shaping and delivering analytics-ready data products that accelerate evidence generation and insight delivery. Sitting under the Data Product Lead, you will collaborate with engineering, governance, and domain teams to define data product specifications, design data pipelines, and ensure product usability and compliance. You will help translate scientific and operational needs into structured, scalable data products that enable reuse and facilitate insight generation across PD. This role requires strong experience in data modeling, product thinking, and an understanding of cross-functional data workflows in R&D.

  • You support the development and maintenance of curated datasets and data marts used for clinical and operational insights
  • You build proficiency in translating user needs into data product requirements, specifications, and roadmaps
  • You understand organizational needs and data challenges that drive the need for foundational data products that improve interoperability, reusability, and downstream analysis
  • You assist with data ingestion, cleaning, and standardization processes under the guidance of senior colleagues
  • You participate in implementing and testing transformations to ensure data consistency, traceability, and alignment with business rules
  • You document data sources, assumptions, and transformations to promote transparency and reuse
  • You build relationships with business stakeholders and end-users to advocate for data products, fostering trust and enhancing value
  • You contribute to troubleshooting data quality issues and collaborating with engineering or product partners to resolve blockers
  • You contribute to KPIs and usage metrics tracking for continuous improvement

Who you are: 

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related technical discipline
  • You have a minimum of 2-4 years of experience working with structured data in support of analytics or reporting use cases, or an advanced degree with 0-2 years of equivalent work experience
  • You have working knowledge of SQL or Python and familiarity with data versioning or ETL tools
  • You are able to learn quickly in a cross-functional environment and contribute to multiple projects in parallel
  • You demonstrate capacity for independent thinking and ability to make decisions based upon sound principles
  • You bring excellent strategic agility including problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and agility that extends beyond the technical domain
  • You demonstrate respect for cultural differences when interacting with colleagues in the global workplace
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically in the areas of presentation and writing, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear language

Preferred:

  • Experience in biomedical data use cases and familiarity with basic data modeling concepts
  • Exposure to cloud-based tools or version control systems (e.g., Git, Airflow, S3)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, including the ability to clearly explain datasets to end users
  • Ability to work within Agile frameworks, including SAFe, to drive iterative development, cross-functional collaboration, and efficient backlog management
  • Experience applying product management principles to data assets with observed contributions to data product design and implementation across organizational silos

This role is based in the Real-World & Clinical Data Strategy (RWCDS) team which drives data excellence and analytics to power enhanced decision-making and evidence-generation within Roche Product Development. We develop and implement data strategies that unlock the value of clinical, operational, and real-world data to accelerate evidence generation, decision-making, and innovation across PD and beyond. By embedding FAIR principles, advancing data governance, and enabling data productization, RWCDS ensures that data is not only findable and usable, but also a driver of scientific rigor, regulatory readiness, and AI-powered transformation. Through deep partnerships with internal functions and external collaborators, we shape a future-ready data ecosystem that supports personalized healthcare and efficient drug development.
