Job Description
We are seeking a Data Privacy Specialist & Legal Counsel to join our team in Asia Pacific. Based in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, you will report to the Associate General Counsel based in Singapore. You will provide in-house legal guidance and advice to business professionals and manage data privacy compliance in Malaysia, as well as other jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Give accurate and timely counsel to business professionals in a variety of legal and compliance topics, including corporate matters, commercial operation and employment etc..
Review, draft and negotiate agreements and other legal documents for clients, suppliers and employees to protect Company interests.
Manage internal governance policies and monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, conduct research and risk assessments regarding business decisions.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external lawyers on dispute resolution.
Manage data privacy compliance under applicable privacy protection laws and security laws in Malaysia; Keep abreast of current developments of privacy regulations in the APAC region.
Monitor firmwide data privacy activities, including reporting and coordination of data privacy related incidents, responding to client related surveys and questionnaires.
Participate in compliance audits, reviews, and assessments of the Firm’s regional specific and global Security and Data Privacy controls. Promote data privacy and security best practices within the region through direct engagement of partners and employees.
Perform ad-hoc legal duties as assigned by the Office of General Counsel (OGC), managers or Partners. Work closely with external and internal stakeholders, including regional and global OGC teams and cross-functional teams, on matters affecting services, operations, and corporate affairs.
Direct engagement and conduct legal & compliance trainings to Partners and employees in the APAC region.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in law and above. Advocate & Solicitor (Malaysian Bar) is a plus.
Minimum 3 years’ experience, preferably in a legal firm or multi-national companies.
Strong experience in commercial contracts, corporate affairs and data privacy.
Detail-oriented, demonstrate high-level integrity and critical thinking, value diversity.
Ability to work independently under pressure and accommodate multiple time zones.
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
