Data Management Expert

Within our department Data Management whose mission is the transformation of Athora towards a more data-literate organization, enabling the achievement of operational efficiency gains and safeguarding the trust and transparency of our data assets in a compliant way, we are seeking a Data Management Expert.

His/Her role is to be responsible for establishing and maintaining robust data governance frameworks and quality monitoring processes across the organization. The Data Management Expert will ensure that data is accurate, consistent, secure, and used responsibly, supporting regulatory compliance, strategic decision-making and operational excellence in the life insurance domain.

He/She will play an active role in the implementation of data management initiatives in line with strategy and regulatory environment.

This role is pivotal in shaping the data strategy and roadmap of the company, driving continuous improvement and innovation in data management practices.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As Data Management Expert your responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing data governance policies and clear rules for data ownership and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborating with Business and IT stakeholders to align on data definitions and usage.
  • Supporting regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, Solvency II).
  • Deploying frameworks and dashboards for monitoring and improving data quality, and managing issue resolution workflows.
  • Promoting data quality awareness across the organization.
  • Contributing to the enterprise data strategy and maintaining a roadmap aligned with business priorities.
  • Providing high-quality, well-governed data to enable analytics and AI use cases.
  • Driving automation of data quality checks and governance workflows.
  • Identifying opportunities for improving data processes and governance maturity.
  • Facilitating data governance councils and supporting projects with governance and quality expertise.

YOUR PROFILE

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in data governance, data quality management, or data management roles, preferably in the insurance or financial services sector.
  • You have a strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) and best practices.
  • You are experienced with data governance and data quality tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Talend, Alation) and familiar with metadata management and data lineage.
  • You have knowledge of data architecture, master data principles, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • You are familiar with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • You understand regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA, Solvency II) and can identify risks related to poor data management while collaborating effectively with Risk stakeholders.
  • You are able to educate and train teams on data management topics and promote best practices across the organization.
  • You have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills (oral and written) and can adapt to different audiences in English, French, and Dutch.
  • You demonstrate a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • You can influence and drive change across departments and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • You thrive in a complex regulatory environment, showing resilience and adaptability.
  • You work independently and collaboratively, with minimal supervision.
  • You are client and quality-oriented, proactive, and a fast learner.
  • Certifications such as CDMP, DGSP, or equivalent are a strong plus.
