Data Governance & Protection Expert

Geneva (Petit-Lancy-Avenue des Morgines 8-10) Full time

Mission

Support the implementation and embedding of ING’s data governance, data quality and data protection requirements across products, processes, and initiatives in Switzerland.  

Work in an Agile environment with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that data-related solutions meet business needs while remaining compliant with applicable Swiss regulatory requirements and ING group standards.

Tasks and responsibilities

Data Management

  • Translate business requirements into clear data requirements, including user stories and acceptance criteria
  • support the implementation and embedding of data governance and data quality controls across processes and initiatives
  • Identify , document and track data‑related risks, issues and dependencies linked to projects and processes, and challenge gaps in ownership or governance artefacts
  • Act as a bridge between business, IT, data owners and control functions to ensure clear roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure documentation on data lineage provenance is available, sufficient and risk‑appropriate for all project in scope
  • Ensure alignment with Swiss applicable requirements

Data Protection and AI

  • Ensure solutions are aligned with Swiss dataprotection law (nFADP/FADP), FINMA expectations, and ING data standards.
  • Act as Business Unit Data Protection (BU DPE) Office Representative, accountable for the implementation and compliance with Data Protection requirements.
  • Ensure timely execution and oversight of core data protection activities, including DPIA, RoPA, individual rights, personal data breaches and TIA.
  • Embed data protection and requirements in change initiatives, including PARP, AI‑enabled use cases and outsourcing.
  • Act as AI Gatekeeper, serving as single point of intake and screening for AI use cases within scope.
  • Ensure completeness, correctness and consistency of AI documentation and governance artefacts

Overarching

  • Overall accountability for the embedding and compliance of data governance, data protection and AI governance requirements within scoped projects.
  • Ensure material risks related to data usage, processing and AI are identified, addressed and tracked, with remediation actions followed up and closed where required.
  • Ensure regulatory and policy compliance with applicable Swiss requirements and ING Group standards, including oversight of regulatory reporting where required.
  • Identify activities that can be outsourced and support the implementation of data governance, data quality, and data protection controls within outsourced environments, ensuring third-party providers adhere to regulatory and contractual standards
  • Ensure traceability and continuous maintenance of documentation and governance in the respective areas.
  • Ensure that governance arrangements, controls and risk mitigating measures are appropriately designed, implemented, reviewed and maintained in the respective areas.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing for local stakeholders (data owners and users) on their roles and responsibilities related to data management and data protection.

Internal and external communication lines

  • Permanent interaction with all local leads /managers or designated SPOC (Single Point of Contact) for Data management and Data governance topics
  • Close coordination and cooperation with 2nd line and 3rd line functions
  • Coordination with functional reporting line Regional Data Officer EMEA (Amsterdam)
  • Swiss regulatory bodies if the case (FINMA, FDPIC), external auditors
  • Approved third party providers

Profile and background

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience as a Data Protection Expert, Data Governance Expert or Business Analyst
  • Good / Solid expertise in Data protection obligations and safeguards assessed for compliance with Swiss and Group requirements
  • Good / Strong understanding of Wholesale Banking data domains (e.g. Clients, Finance, Payments, Transactions, KYC)
