Job Title
Data EngineerJob Description
Data is at the core of UnderwriteMe’s business, powering customer-facing SaaS insight capabilities, internal decision-making, and strengthening our parent company PL Re’s relationship with customers.
As a Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in evolving our already advanced data technology stack (Snowflake, dbt, etc.) to one that’s industry leading.
You will work in a fast-paced environment alongside product, analytics, and engineering teams, contributing to the development of products and datasets to be used by our AI, analytics and products directly.
What you’ll be doing
Design, develop and support key data pipelines, products and services that power analytics, AI, and customer-facing features
Work with key business domains to understand their requirements; extracting and modelling data to match these requirements
Draw upon broader industry techniques to data management and implement them proactively
Design, implement and optimise large scale data management solutions, balancing cost and efficiency
Monitor and troubleshoot performance or data quality issues; ensuring well modelled data that consistently achieves data quality benchmarks
Communicate technical concepts and designs to non-technical stakeholders
What type of person fits the role
You’ll be highly self-motivated, able to absorb new ideas or concepts quickly, and apply these to the betterment of the team – seeking opportunities for the team, rather than waiting to be asked.
You’ll have a passion for the data and AI industry as a whole – keen to apply tools or techniques you’ve come across into workable solutions.
You’ll be a skilled problem-solver and troubleshooter, capable of diagnosing complex data issues quickly and effectively
You take ownership of your work end-to-end and care deeply about data quality, reliability, and the impact of what you build
You seek out feedback from your team, peers, and stakeholders, and act on it thoughtfully. You show humility, admit when you’re wrong, learn from mistakes, and create an environment where others feel safe to do the same.
Technical Requirements
Experience with DataOps methods and data quality improvement techniques
Experience with agile methodologies and continuous delivery
Experience with continuous integration pipelines and technologies
Experience with DevOps concepts and tooling (Terraform, Kubernetes etc.)
Proficiency with cloud services (ideally AWS)
Proficiency with data modelling tools and techniques (dbt)
Experience or proven interest with large scale data processing (Spark, Hadoop, Pig etc.)
Proficiency with structured or custom ETL/ELT management (Airflow, Dagster, etc.)
Experience or proven interest in AI/MLOps technologies
Proficiency with SQL databases (Relational, Snowflake, etc.)
Excellent communication skills
