Who we are looking for:

ASCO’s Information Technology Department is seeking a Data Engineer Intern to collaborate within a fast-paced, agile environment and support our efforts in extracting, transforming and loading data from external sources to enhance our data-driven decision making.

Internship activities include:

  • Gain practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for data stores (multi-cloud)
  • Work closely with Data Engineers to create and use datasets to support the business teams
  • Identify data sources, determine extractions methods and carry out, and transform the data to work other data streams or pipelines
  • Assist in data generation for multiple schema types (relational and non-relational)
  • Develop an understanding of data volume and complexity for scaling
  • Learn and work w/ the CI/CD team for Integration and Automation
  • Develop documentation to enable developers

Required qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate BA/BS degree program, or graduate program, or recently graduated from a 4-year degree program. Candidates must be at least a junior or entering their junior year of college at the start of the internship.
  • Knowledge of database engineering and data storage
  • Hands-on experience working with SQL and Python
  • Familiarity with database tools; and data ingestion, data mining, and/or machine learning being a plus
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (365 preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Solid organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism
  • Willingness to enhance skills

Duration: 10 weeks during the summer – June 8, 2026 to August 14, 2026. This internship is 37.5 hours per week.  

Compensation: This summer internship position is paid at a rate of $20/hour for actual hours worked. Additionally, ASCO will provide parking or a metro subsidy.

Location: This internship is based in Alexandria, VA and will require working onsite the majority of the time with some offsite work flexibility. Candidates should reside in the D.C. metro area or be able to relocate at their own expense. If you are not able to work at ASCO Headquarters, please do not apply.
