Data Engineer & Automation Machine Learning Specialist

Asturias Full time

Axalta has remained at the forefront of the coatings industry by continually investing in innovative solutions. We engineer technologies that protect customers’ products – whether they are battling heat, light, corrosion, abrasion, moisture, or chemicals – and add dimension and beauty with colourful finishes. We have a vast and ever-evolving portfolio of brands primed to play an important part in everything from modernizing infrastructure around the world to enabling the next generation of electric and autonomous vehicles.

We are currently looking for a Data Engineer & Automation Machine Learning Specialist to join us at our facility in Asturias, Spain. This role sits at the intersection of data management and data engineering, with a strong focus on improving data quality, system integration, and advanced analytics.

The primary purpose of the role is to ensure high-quality, reliable, and synchronized data across core business systems (SAP and Salesforce.com (SFDC)) while also enabling advanced data-driven use cases through Python-based modeling.

Key responsibilities:

  • Owning the cleansing, standardization, and governance of data within SAP and SFDC
  • Designing and implementing processes to keep both systems continuously synchronized
  • Establishing scalable frameworks for ongoing data quality monitoring and remediation
  • Building Python-based data models to generate business insights, such as 1) Customer performance scoring 2) Automated validation of customer activation and purchasing behavior, 3) Correlation analysis between engagement (e.g., visit frequency) and performance
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders to translate requirements into data logic and pipelines
  • Core challenges include: 1) Working with inconsistent and fragmented legacy data, 2) Aligning two complex systems (SAP & SFDC) with different data structures and logic, 3) Balancing operational data management with advanced analytical development, 4) Building sustainable, automated processes rather than one-off fixes or workarounds.

 Key requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in data roles combining data engineering, data quality, and governance
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Strong expertise in data management, data quality frameworks, and governance best practices
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise systems, particularly SAP and Salesforce (SFDC) data structures
  • Advanced Python skills, including building scalable data pipelines and predictive/analytical models
  • Solid proficiency in SQL and relational databases, with a strong understanding of ETL/ELT and data integration techniques
  • Proven ability to translate complex business needs into structured data models and scalable logic
  • Experience working with complex customer data environments (e.g., SaaS, manufacturing, retail, B2B services)
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to operate autonomously in ambiguous environments, with clear communication and business acumen
  • Familiarity with modern data ecosystems, including cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), Microsoft Fabric, data orchestration tools, customer analytics (e.g., churn, segmentation), and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
