Data Delivery Associate, Population Health

Position Summary: Using a proprietary ETL process, Pop Health Data Operations Associates help maintain the tools that transform data from a wide variety of sources into a standardized format that supports analysis and produces actionable insights. They assist their Managers/teams/stakeholders with process improvement efforts. Data Services team members are motivated by tackling large problems and building processes and tools that will help the organization scale. Data Operations team members strive to conquer the complexity and messiness of data from payers, EMRs, and labs to truly make an impact on healthcare.


Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

30% Data Maintenance

  • Support seamless flow of data from source to the front-end application
    • Using SQL and other tools, monitor and analyze data - in order to explain performance variation and trends as client data is migrated into athena’s systems (and back to client again)
    • Proactively identify, research, understand, and work with feed data/programming structure to resolve issues that impact client business success
  • Leverage and build test plans and metrics to validate success of the team’s work
    • Be responsible for reconciling routine data feeds to system published data
  • Act as go-to resource for analysis and in-depth understanding of source data
    • Provide updates to internal team, Managers, and other internal stakeholders around structure of client data feed workflows in order to help others answer client questions or address requests

30% Process Improvement/Scalability

  • Contribute to optimization and automation of standard processes by identifying recurring issues across monthly publishes or across varying client feeds; researching solutions; and then executing upon agreed-upon next steps in a timely and accurate manner
  • Work on projects that enhance and optimize code base to improve scalability and performance

30% Relationship Management

  • Proactively research and resolve data issues that impact client success
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve the data integration system
  • Provide support and guidance to cross-functional teams a technical resource

10% Special Projects

  •  Assist with ad-hoc data operations needs and cross-functional projects within Population Health

Education & Experience Required:

  • BA or BS degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience where candidate should have worked as Data Analyst for at least 3 years with relational databases – writing queries and managing data; SQL programming experience preferred
  • Understanding of data management tools and analysis techniques
  • Understanding of healthcare data and value-based contracts preferred
  • Experience in analyzing complex business problems
  • Knowledge and understanding of athenahealth product suite and business model preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • SQL knowledge of writing simple to complex queries and troubleshooting issues through data analysis.
  • Excellent knowledge on ETL process.
  • Self-starter who can come up to speed on various technologies and methodologies with minimal training
  • Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity as we grow offerings with diverse requirements, stakeholders, and opportunities – and sometimes with constrained resources
  • Should have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and have ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders at various cohort levels
  • Utilizes professional attitude and comfort working in a corporate setting populated by diverse types of people; able to maintain poise and a sense of humor in stressful situations
  • Proactive approach to identifying solutions to problems and to taking on work that helps collective team meet their goals
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (primarily Excel)
  • Ability to independently prioritize, drive results, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to dive deep into information and articulate core findings to the broader group
  • Able to expresses complex issues succinctly and logically
  • Able to execute multiple project work streams simultaneously and transparently, ensuring that all internal and external stakeholders understand the projects’ goals and deliverables
  • Ability to influence others through enthusiasm, commitment, and vision rather than direct line authority
