You will form part of the Mass Foundation Cluster which is one of the largest customer-facing business segments in Old Mutual. This role is individually accountable for identifying data improvement projects through root cause problem solving and managing the analysis, design and implementation of projects through multi-functional teams.

This role drives data quality and adherence to data governance requirements on a day-to-day basis. It incorporates processes, policies, and guidelines for administering OML data in compliance with policy and/or regulatory obligations, ensuring high data quality. The incumbent is accountable for driving the improvement of data governance, management and security maturity levels within OML to support reliable decision making, appropriate data usage and protection thereof. This role incorporates the management of a data quality team, responsible for driving MFC’s Data Quality improvement and remediation measures.
This role also fulfils a support function to MFC’s Sales Distribution Channels, driving data literacy and data democracy at all levels of the channels’ hierarchy. Through on-going engagements, the data steward is responsible for the identification and support of current and future data needs of the Sales Channels.

Responsibilities:

• Embeds good data practice within business units and functions, and champions a data and customer focused culture within MFC.

• Establishes process, procedure for data management and information governance.

• Adheres to regulation and policy.

• Works closely with the central OML team to ensure consistency in policy implementation throughout the enterprise.

• Participates and contributes to the Data Stewards Forum and own data outcomes for MFC.

• Operationally implements data projects and business as usual governance.

• Ensures decisions made in the Data Governance Board (DGB) are implemented in MFC.

• Confirms that MFC concerns regarding data are brought to the DGB and satisfactorily resolved.

• Drives data maturity improvements in MFC.

• Ensures data risks are logged in the data risk register and articulated/escalated to the relevant enterprise bodies.

• Ensures data architecture within MFC supports data governance standards.

• Provides thought leadership and develops infrastructure within field of expertise.

• Translates business needs into functional data/system requirements and manages solution development lifecycle.

• Individually accountable for managing time, tasks and output.

• Collaborates effectively with others to achieve personal results.

• Responsible for building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Supports Sales Channels on their data and/or reporting needs.

• Drives Data Literacy & Democracy throughout MFC.

• Collaborates effectively with enablement and operational teams, providing subject matter expertise.

• Responsible for the management of a small dedicated data quality team.

Requirements:

• Matric

• IT/Data Science/Information Systems qualification

• IT knowledge

• 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role

• Strong business lead

• People management skills

Advantageous:

• Knowledge of DAMA framework.

• CDMP (certified data management professional)/CIMP (certified information management professional).

• Knowledge of Alation Data Catalogue.

• Familiarity with EDM Council’s DCAM Model.
