Role Description

  • Data Architect is responsible for managing or performing work across multiple areas of the bank's data infrastructure including analysis, modelling, development, and administration. It may also involve taking functional oversight of data engineering delivery for specific projects. Planning and developing data solutions to accomplish business goals. Building reliability and resiliency into solutions with appropriate testing and reviewing throughout the delivery lifecycle Ensuring maintainability and reusability of data solutions. Ensuring solutions are well architected and can be integrated successfully into the end-to-end business process flow. Reviewing data  plans and quality to drive re-use and improve delivery capability.

Your key responsibilities

  • Own and evolve enterprise‑grade data models
    Design, implement, and maintain logical and physical data models across relational (Postgres, BigQuery) and NoSQL platforms, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with platform data standards.
  • Architect data solutions for Python‑based pipelines
    Partner with data engineers to ensure data models are optimised for Python‑driven batch and streaming pipelines, enabling efficient ingestion, transformation, and consumption by analytics and downstream systems.
  • Lead knowledge graph and semantic modelling initiatives
    Define and implement knowledge graph structures (entities, relationships, ontologies) to enable richer data discovery, lineage, and cross‑domain analytics use cases.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance by design
    Embed data quality rules, metadata, and lineage into architecture designs, aligning with internal data governance and risk data aggregation principles.
  • Collaborate across global, cross‑functional teams
    Work closely with data science, engineering, and platform teams across regions, as well as stakeholders from other business and technology domains, to translate requirements into robust data architectures.
  • Provide architectural guidance and design assurance
    Review designs, support technical decision‑making, and contribute to architecture forums to ensure solutions align with internal data architecture, security, and compliance expectations.

Your skills and experience

  • Expert‑level data modelling expertise
    Strong hands‑on experience with conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling, including dimensional and domain‑driven models, aligned with internal enterprise data modelling guidelines.
  • Advanced SQL and database querying skills
    Proven expertise in querying and optimising data on Postgres and BigQuery, with a solid understanding of performance tuning, indexing strategies, and cost‑efficient query design.
  • Experience with NoSQL and graph data stores
    Practical knowledge of NoSQL databases and graph technologies, with the ability to select and model data appropriately based on access patterns and analytical needs.
  • Knowledge graph and semantic technologies
    Experience designing and working with knowledge graphs, including entity resolution, relationship modelling, and metadata‑driven architectures, aligned to internal data lineage and discoverability standards.
  • Strong understanding of data governance and controls
    Familiarity with internal enterprise guidance on data quality, lineage, privacy, and risk data management, and the ability to reflect these requirements in architecture and design decisions.
  • Strong communication in a global delivery context
    Ability to clearly articulate architectural concepts and trade‑offs to diverse stakeholders across geographies and domains, working effectively within a global team model.
