Data Annotation Specialist
Job Summary
Our team is seeking a collaborative Data Annotation Specialist to assist with developing, evaluating, and monitoring contact center AI. Our mission is to ensure that AI solutions deliver real business value - not just flashy features. As a Data Annotation Specialist, you will play a critical role in creating high-quality training data and evaluating real-world AI performance to help us build accurate, reliable, AI systems.
This role requires expert-level English language skills (spoken and written) and strong cognitive abilities to understand complex business problems, make informed decisions about data quality, and research correct responses in unclear situations.
The work of our Data Annotation Specialists ensures that our AI models solve real business problems and meet quality standards. By creating training data and evaluating performance, we avoid costly mistakes and deliver AI that truly improves customer experiences.
Job Responsibilities
- Attend team meetings and agile ceremonies to understand the business case and model objectives for each annotation project.
- Apply deep comprehension and judgment to machine learning inputs and outputs, including:
- Listening to and transcribing messy audio (accents, background noise)
- Scoring conversations about technical issues for quality.
- Reading transcripts to identify call drivers and intent.
- Make critical decisions about what constitutes high-quality data for each use case.
- Proactively reach out to experts when additional context is needed to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with data scientists, product managers, ML engineers, architects, and data engineers.
- Participate in data curation for model creation, evaluation, and monitoring.
- Help design and improve annotation workflows for efficiency and quality.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of relevant experience is required.
- Professional business experience.
- Expert grasp of the English language, both spoken and written.
- Strong problem-solving skills: Ability to quickly understand complex business objectives and make clear, defensible decisions about data quality.
- High accountability: Comfortable working with little ambiguity, ability to problem-solve when stuck.
- Critical thinking and judgment: Capable of weighing trade-offs and selecting the most appropriate data to meet business goals.
- Proactive communication: Willing to reach out to subject matter experts when clarification is needed to ensure accuracy.
Preferred:
- Experience with data labeling platforms (Azure ML Data Labeling, AWS SageMaker Ground Truth).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Basic knowledge of Python or SQL.
- Experience with NLP or conversational AI.
- Previous annotation or data quality experience

The base salary range for this position is $92,250 - $144,964 plus incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on work location, qualifications, skills, education, experience, and competencies. Benefits available to eligible employees in this role include medical, dental, and vision insurance, comprehensive employee assistance program, 401(k) retirement plan, paid time off and holidays.
