Hempel’s Commercial Transformation and Technology team utilizes data gathered from the entire world fleet along with in-house models, to help shipowners make more economically sound and environmentally friendly decisions when managing their fleet.

With an ever-increasing demand for easily accessible data of high quality, the Data and Technology team is looking to expand our team with a talented individual with strong digital skills.

As part of the Data and Technology team you will have the opportunity to be part of the modernization of the shipping industry by supporting the development of sophisticated ML algorithms to support our data-driven initiatives. Additionally, you will also have the opportunity to work with massive datasets, using cutting-edge digital tools to create ML models that will revolutionize the marine coating industry.

What will your focus areas be?

• Support in the backend-development of data streams entering our data platform.

• Optimizing existing infrastructure by simplifying and strengthening existing data pipelines, as well as maintaining and improving existing infrastructure.

• Further development and maintaining of a state-of-the-art computer vision ML system

• Coalescing multiple data streams from various projects into a centralized model to fully unlock all modelling potential within the department

• Ad hoc data requisition and API calls to make analyses or otherwise support separate departments to unlock value from data.

What will you be joining?

As the Data and Technology team is rapidly maturing, you will be given a large level of responsibility, with the possibility of making a strong and lasting impact on the marine coating industry as a whole. As part of this role, you will get the possibility of working with a myriad of digital tools and help solve novel problems within the digital sector of the marine coating industry.

You will be joining a dedicated team with extremely diverse profiles, working across our Global Services and Marine Business Units. The team is primarily based in Hempel’s headquarters in Kgs. Lyngby, but also with team members across locations in Turkey and Croatia.

Do you have a passion for data and machine learning?

As our ideal candidate you have deep interest and passion for working with a variety of digital tools, preferably with a strong sense of logical comprehension. As a person, you enjoy learning new skills, as well as the process of understanding how systems work.

What do we look for in you?

• Demonstrable skills in any programming language. Preferably >2 years of experience through education, work, hobbies, and/or personal projects.

• Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following programming languages and frameworks: Python, Spark/Pyspark, SQL

• Curious by nature and able to combine your structured logic with a creative approach to find solutions to novel challenges.

• An educational background from IT, engineering, or natural sciences is preferred, but exceptional candidates without this will also be considered.

• An ability to work independently, but with an inherent understanding of your own limits and unafraid to ask for clarification or assistance when needed.

• Fluency in English
