Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Cyber Systems Engineer – Level 2 to join our team in Chandler, AZ.
The System Security Engineer (SSE) supports a multidisciplinary Systems Security Engineering team responsible for securing advanced missile and weapon systems throughout the development lifecycle. This role exposes the engineer to Anti-Tamper (AT) design, Cybersecurity engineering, Program Protection, hardware/firmware/software assurance, supply-chain security, and the system security processes used to safeguard Critical Program Information (CPI), mission-critical functions, and sensitive technologies.
This is a hands-on engineering position requiring strong analytical skills, a willingness to learn complex DoD requirements, and the ability to operate under senior engineer guidance.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
Support the development of security requirements, architecture, and design artifacts for embedded weapons / missile-system subsystems, integrating both Cybersecurity and Anti-Tamper (AT) considerations.
Assist in defining and documenting system security controls (hardware, firmware/software, supply chain, configuration management) and ensure secure configuration of components per DoD-approved security standards.
Participate in trade studies, threat-risk analyses, and system security trade-offs under supervision; support decomposition and allocation of security requirements into system design.
Work under the guidance of senior engineers to assist in verification, testing, and validation of security implementations, including vulnerability assessments, and security control validations using appropriate tools.
Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams (hardware, firmware/software, system integration, program management) to integrate security requirements into overall system design and development.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience
Demonstrated academic coursework, project work, or internship exposure in at least one of these domains: systems engineering, digital electronics design, embedded systems, software/firmware development, systems integration & test.
Ability to obtain DoD Government Secret Security Clearance
US Citizen
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in team environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or experience in embedded systems, digital electronics, firmware, or avionics/hardened military electronics.
Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE), system architectural modeling, and system design lifecycle (requirements → design → implementation → test/integration).
Some exposure (academic or internship) to cybersecurity, software assurance, secure coding, or secure system design.
Demonstrated ability or interest in system security integration under regulated/classified / DoD-style programs.
Basic understanding of system test, integration, and verification processes for complex defense systems (electronics, embedded, software, hardware).

Primary Level Salary Range: $87,200.00 - $130,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
