Cyber Security Manager, VP, GCS Security Platforms, US

State Street is seeking a Cyber Security Manager for our Security Platforms team in the US, which is part of the State Street Global Cyber Fusion Center. This team designs, manages, and supports the security tools which enable security operations across State Street. These tools are critical to State Street’s security, enabling threat detection, incident response, threat hunting, vulnerability management, and other key functions. This is a priority role in a global team. Locations are US (Boston or Quincy preferred).

Who are we looking for

A Cyber Security Manager with strong people management and leadership skills with ability to act and drive positive outcomes. This person will join State Street’s Security Platforms team, which is responsible for designing, configuring, and supporting the key security tools supporting our Global Cyber Fusion Center. Success in this role will require strong people management and operational effectiveness skills with a strong security and service delivery background.

What will you be responsible for

  • Team leadership and management, developing better work practices and outputs to our internal customers
  • Deputising for the Director of Security Platforms and other senior leaders in the team as needed
  • Helping the team to grow, via positive feedback, training and skills enhancement, and by providing clear career paths and progression opportunities. You will be responsible for succession planning, ensuring the team is equipped for future growth and leadership transitions.
  • Regularly engage with tools and operations teams, such as our Cyber Defence Team in Kilkenny, Ireland, to understand how to help them work more effectively through use of our platforms
  • Perform analytics on previous incidents and usage patterns to better predict issues and take proactive actions
  • Driving change and innovation with our tools and processes, with a particular focus on leveraging machine learning (ML), and security automation tools to enhance threat detection, automate incident response, and improve overall security posture. The successful candidate will champion the adoption and integration of security automation technologies to ensure our platforms remain at the forefront of cyber defence.
  • Ensure the security of State Street by delivering the most capable and reliable security tools for our incident responders and threat hunters
  • Monitor the coverage or visibility of our security platforms to ensure effective detection and response of host and network borne threats
  • Contribute and lead projects that improve current capabilities, drive adoption, and enable future growth
  • Represent the function at various project and stakeholder meetings

  • Familiarity with a range of open source and commercial security tools, including those that incorporate AI/ML and automation capabilities, their use cases, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Understanding of current security threats and other challenges, as well as frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK
  • Experience of a 24/7 security operations environment emphasising speed of response, reliability, and tool availability
  • A collaborative work style and strong personal work ethic

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • This is a role for an experienced people manager, expected to have 10+ years of relevant security and systems management experience
  • This role requires an understanding of enterprise security tools and capabilities
  • A degree is not required for this role, but a qualification in information security or information systems may be beneficial
  • Experience with endpoint detection and response (EDR), advanced anti-malware, and other endpoint security tools may be beneficial
  • Experience in distributed, international teams and financial services would be beneficial

  • This role may be filled in any of the following locations:
    • US, Boston or Quincy preferred
  • This role is not available for remote working
  • This team supports 24/7 operations, therefore participation in an on-call rotation is required

Salary Range:

$140,000 - $222,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
