About you and this role:

Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist located in Midland, MI.

The Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist manages the company’s regional efforts to ensure regulatory compliance for all aspects of importing or exporting, ensuring trade regulatory compliance. In this role, you will require conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures as well as having general business knowledge developed through education or prior experience related to your discipline and functional area. You will need to have the ability to exchange straightforward information with others and ask questions to check for understanding.

It is your responsibility to use established procedures and practice to analyze and resolve standard problems. You will be accountable for assigned contributions with no direct supervisory responsibilities. Your performance impacts your own work with limited impact on your team. You will need to use established procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for any import or export related operational issues.

  • Understands the legal framework and policy restrictions for import or control regimes and maintains processes for appropriate government agencies and system routines to comply.

  • Acts as an audit focal point responsible for performing regular assessments of import data using a combination of sources, including by not limited to DSR, ACE, Broker Reports, etc.

  • Implements new procedures/changes relative to outcome of e.g. government audits and new regulations.

  • Implements proper work processes within the function to ensure compliance with regulations and adherence to licenses.

  • Organizes and performs reports and oversees record-keeping for the function needed for regulatory requirements.

The critical competencies required for success are: interpersonal effectiveness, understanding customer needs and single work process activities, team work, taking initiative, problem solving skills, technical proficiency in use of computer applications and analytical skills.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an Associate's degree or 3 years or more of relevant military training/experience

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree discipline preferably in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering or other Sciences

  • 1-3 years of experience in International Trade, Information Technology, Legal and/or Supply Chain

  • Interest in obtaining US Customs Broker License
