Job Summary
The Canada Customs Lead is responsible for overseeing Canadian import and export customs compliance activities to ensure adherence with applicable trade regulations. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for Canadian customs requirements and provides leadership in managing customs processes, broker relationships, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
The Canada Customs Lead works cross-functionally with logistics, supply chain, finance, and trade compliance teams to ensure accurate and timely customs filings, mitigate compliance risk, and drive continuous process improvements. The role also supports audits, regulatory inquiries, and strategic initiatives related to Canadian customs operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee Canadian customs compliance activities for import and export transactions.
Serve as the primary subject matter expert for Canadian customs regulations and requirements.
Ensure compliance with regulations administered by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and other relevant government agencies.
Manage relationships with customs brokers to ensure timely and accurate customs filings.
Review and validate broker submissions including tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin declarations.
Monitor customs clearance activities and proactively address delays, discrepancies, or compliance issues.
Provide guidance and training to internal teams on Canadian customs requirements and best practices.
Support the development and implementation of customs compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for customs compliance issues.
Participate in internal and external customs audits and support responses to regulatory inquiries.
Identify opportunities to improve customs processes, enhance compliance controls, and reduce operational risk.
Monitor regulatory updates, tariff changes, and trade policy developments impacting Canadian imports and exports.
Collaborate with global trade compliance teams to align processes and ensure consistent compliance practices.
Maintain documentation and records in accordance with Canadian customs recordkeeping requirements.
Provide reporting and metrics related to customs compliance performance and risk management.
Education & Experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent experience in customs compliance or international trade may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience
5–7 years of experience in customs compliance, international trade, or import/export operations.
Demonstrated experience managing Canadian customs processes and working with customs brokers.
Experience leading compliance initiatives, process improvements, or cross-functional projects.
Experience supporting customs audits, regulatory inquiries, or compliance reviews preferred.
Preferred Certifications
Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) – Canadian Society of Customs Brokers
Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS)
Certified Customs Compliance Specialist (CCCS)
Other professional certifications related to international trade or supply chain management
Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of Canadian customs regulations, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Expertise in tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin rules.
Familiarity with Canadian trade programs such as free trade agreements, duty relief programs, and special import provisions.
Strong understanding of customs broker management and customs clearance processes.
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into operational procedures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to lead initiatives, influence cross-functional teams, and drive process improvements.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and trade compliance systems.

Compensation and Benefits
The Salary range for this role is $92,000 to $125,000 CAD annually with a Pay within this range will be based on the review of experience, skills, and internal equity.
As a full time, employee of HP Canada, you will be eligible to participate in the company's group benefit programs, including medical, dental, life insurance, and disability coverage, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. During your employment term, you will receive 15 paid vacation days per year prorated based on your start date. Detailed information regarding benefits—will be provided upon hire and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
