Custodians and Floor Maintenance
Summary:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Custodial Services, the Custodian performs duties primarily related to the cleaning of assigned areas in an orderly and attractive manner, ensuring that the highest degree of cleanliness and sanitation is maintained at all times.
Job Description:
Cleaning Functions
Cleans and dusts all spaces to include but not limited to offices, classrooms, multi-purpose spaces, stairwells, restrooms, auditoriums, gymnasiums, dormitory rooms and apartments.
Empties and removes trash and also maintains the cleanliness of the receptacles.
Cleans and dusts furniture, file cabinets, desks, chairs, telephones, white boards, baseboards, partitions, window covers, light fixtures, window ledges, light fixtures, inner windows, door glass and partitions.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms including urinals, toilets, showers, mirrors, vents, tile, floors and other surfaces; replenishes hand soap, tissue paper and sanitary napkin supplies; and empties all trash containers and maintains the cleanliness of restroom trash receptacles.
Disinfects all walls, doors, painted woodwork, bulletin boards, door frames, stairways and handrails.
Pulls trash from buildings to campus dumpsters, as directed by the supervisor.
Administrative Functions
Periodically inspects, or otherwise maintains awareness of, facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage; and cleans and maintains all equipment properly at all times.
Reports maintenance service requests within immediate work areas to the supervisor.
Assumes responsibilities for supply needs and inventory within immediate work areas.
Manages time effectively by completing work within the scheduled time.
Properly clocks-in and clocks-out.
Submits leave in Workday in a timely manner.
Safety and Security
Ensures proper use and application of custodial chemicals; keeps up to date on OSHA regulations as they relate to cleaning and sanitation measures; and completes annual training as it relates to the Hazardous Communication program.
Safely operates custodial equipment including but not limited to vacuum cleaners, squeegees and pressure washers; and maintains knowledge and skill in the operation of floor, carpet, equipment and tools.
Secures equipment and supplies and protects against pilferage, loss, theft or abuse.
Attends emergencies when necessary.

Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
A minimum of one year of experience with custodial services or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to communicate in American Sign language.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong ability to understand and follow directions.
Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.
Additional Job Details:
The incumbent must be able to work evenings and/or weekends on a regular basis.
The incumbent must be able to lift or carry seventy (70) pounds of equipment or supplies.
As a designated essential employee, the incumbent may be required to report onsite during a campus closure, as directed by the manager, to support community safety and operational continuity.
