CSLP Student Worker - Community Engagement Associate (CSLP FWS)

Position Summary/Purpose:

Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs.

GCU maintains a partnership with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul located at 420 W Watkins Road, Phoenix, AZ, 85003. St. Vincent de Paul provides services to the homeless, food boxes for the food-insecure, medical/dental care for uninsured patients, and housing/shelter for the unhoused. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of St. Vincent de Paul; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring).

CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community.

As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents).

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Essential Functions:

1.    Help from Home 

  • Assist in the growth and development of the Help from Home program by providing feedback and implementing improvements.

  • Utilize CANVA to develop instruction materials for new remote opportunities for participants in SVdP’s Help from Home Program.

  • Build relationships with volunteers, donors, and community partners to enhance participation in the Help from Home program.

  • Focus outreach efforts on individuals and communities facing barriers to in-person service, such as retirement homes, families with young children, and healthcare facilities.

2.    Feeding Our Neighbors Together (FONT)

  • Support the Community Engagement team in engaging universities and colleges with the goal of increasing food collected. 

  • Connect with partners across the state to introduce them to FONT and invite them to join. 

  • Support in communicating with ongoing and new partners.

3.    Leadership In Action (LIA) Fellowship

  • Engage with (LIA) Fellows and interns, helping to plan and execute educational events/opportunities 

  • Gather feedback and contribute to the growth and improvement of the LIA program.

  • Assist in recruiting new Fellows and interns through outreach to colleges and community organizations.

4.    College and University Partnerships

  • Expand and maintain relationships with college partners and students across Arizona.

  • Educate students and institutions about SVdP’s mission and connect them to meaningful service opportunities.

  • Develop new partnerships with schools and foster existing relationships to support SVdP’s outreach initiatives.

5.    General Support

  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Program Manager and team to execute broader outreach initiatives.

  • Contribute ideas and assist in the development of impactful programs for SVdP.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must have reliable transportation

Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.

  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.

  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
