JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

We are seeking a motivated research assistant to gain hands-on experience in computational genomics and bioinformatics as part of an NIH-funded metagenomics research project. This part-time position offers an excellent learning opportunity for someone looking to develop skills in computational biology, algorithm development, and AI applications in biological research.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with computational analysis for metagenomic studies under close supervision
  • Learn and apply existing algorithms for taxonomic classification and phylogenetic analysis
  • Support the development of bioinformatics pipelines and tools
  • Perform data processing and quality control for genomic datasets
  • Contribute to functional annotation and comparative analysis of metagenomic samples
  • Participate in lab meetings and learn research methodologies
  • Assist with training materials and documentation for lab protocols

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, or related field
  • Coursework or project experience in bioinformatics or computational biology
  • Basic programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages
  • Willingness to learn new computational tools and methods
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively

Schedule: up to (but not to exceed) 20 hours per week

Compensation: $15/hour
