Provo City is looking for a Cross Connection Control Coordinator to provide work in developing and managing the Cross Connection Control Program in the Water Resources division. What is the compensation package?

Pay Rate: (G29) $29.48 - $40.64 per hour depending on qualifications.

What are the main duties? (Click here for the full classification specification.)

  • Develop, implement, and manage the cross-connection control program mandated by state and federal regulatory agencies.

  • Develop and maintain a running inventory of all backflow prevention assemblies and devices within the City.

  • Maintain records of each operating test of every assembly and device as well as maintenance and repair records.

  • Regularly conduct hazard surveys throughout the City to identify cross-connections.

  • Communicate verbally and in writing with water system users to ensure compliance with cross-connection control program standards, including annual testing requirements.

  • Inspect existing and new facilities, both commercial and residential, for potential cross-connections, and approve preventative measures.

  • In coordination with attorney's office, initiate non-compliance action and enforcement for program violators.

  • Develop public-awareness and education programs related to cross-connection control.

  • Test PVB, SVB, RPB, and DCV backflow preventers based on data review and evaluation.

  • Diagnose water quality problems, complaints, and water contamination caused by pressure differential cross connections, and ensure appropriate, timely resolutions.

  • Investigate reported or suspected backflow incidents.

  • Keep appraised of state cross-connection regulations and plumbing code requirements.

  • Assist other staff members as needed and perform other related duties as required.

What are the minimum requirements?

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • A valid, lawful Driver License is required.

  • Cross Connection Control Program Administrator Certification (previously Class I Backflow Technician Certification) is required.

  • Backflow Assembly Tester Certification (previously Class II Backflow Technician Certification) is preferred.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on May 4, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
