Critical Facilities Technician

The Job
The Critical Facilities Technician (CFT) is responsible for all aspects of data center operations related to critical and non-critical infrastructure, equipment, and systems. They will participate in an unwavering attitude and commitment to safety and reliability within the Data Center. The CFT will drive continual improvements in the data center's operational excellence by adhering to company standards and industry’s best practices.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems.
- Work with a team of CFTs to deliver total availability (100% uptime) while minimizing risks.
- Monitor power, cooling capacity, and environmental conditions within the data halls.
- Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as a tool to manage all planned and unplanned data center work.
- Perform preventive maintenance on data center electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Assist with the development, revision, and execution of approximately 200 operating procedures and preventive maintenance inspections, and perform quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and continual improvement.
- Assist with the development of Data Center standards and policies when necessary.
- Resolve minor electrical and mechanical issues within the data center quickly while minimizing risk and properly communicating issues to the appropriate chain of command.
- Respond to emergencies and critical issues as necessary and work independently and as a team, according to staffing and situation, towards complete recovery.
- Troubleshoot and document technical issues, escalate as appropriate, and ensure issue resolution.
- Assist with planning on corrective issues.
- Assist and/or complete physical and logical installations.
- Maintain accurate facility data, including rounds, preventative maintenance work orders, change management, etc.
- Maintain strict adherence to change control activities.
- Manage assigned workflow tasks to provide timely turnaround.
- Escort and work effectively with outside contractors, ensuring they are abiding by critical facility work rules.
- Complete facility rounds at the beginning of each shift to ensure data center and grounds upkeep.
- Participate in facility training programs regularly.
- Assist in facility operations, as required.
- Participate in construction and commissioning, as directed by the CFM.
- Work shifts to support 24×7 data center operation and have flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts. On-call emergency support as required.
- Adherent to all federal and local safety laws
- Foster open, respectful, and professional communication directly within the team as well as with co-workers/ teammates and leaders across the organization.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED required.
- 1+ year(s) of experience in Mission Critical Environments is required.
- Willingness and ability to follow guidance from other staff members and management required.
- Basic understanding of email and MS office software required.
- A positive and professional attitude is always required, and very high attention to detail is required.
- Prior military or technical school training, preferred
- Electrical or mechanical license, preferred
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team environment preferred.
- Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including lawnmowers, forklifts, scissor lifts, and small hand tools preferred.

Travel
Minimal travel between data centers may be required as needed.
Work Environment
This job operates in a data center, office, and shop environment. This role routinely uses standard maintenance equipment, including ladders, scissor lifts, forklifts, power tools, and voltmeters. While performing these duties, the employee will be exposed to hot and cold environments.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, onsite position. Shifts vary by location. Some nights and weekends may be required.
