The Opportunity

As a dedicated Critical Facilities Electrical and Mechanical Technician (Mid-Level) for Plant Operations, you will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of facility processes that maximize customer uptime in the most cost-effective and efficient ways. Experience shall include previous facility operations of large plant equipment in a critical infrastructure environment that includes, but is not limited to, redundant electrical and mechanical systems, large multi-module UPS systems, UPS batteries, back up diesel generation, automated system controls, closed transition load switching, automatic transfer switches, static transfer switches, fiber optic cabling, and direct expansion and chilled water systems.

This position will be located onsite in the San Antonio, TX office location.

This position will require shift work, including weekends. Rotating shift across weekend days/weekend nights/week day/week night shifts.

What you'll do:

  • Performs critical load transferring using building automation systems (i.e., SCADA, and (Data Center Information Management, DCIM).

  • Tests, maintains, operates, and repairs critical support equipment including UPS, emergency generators, HVAC, chillers, security access control hardware and life safety equipment in a data center or other critical equipment area.

  • Monitors and reacts to all critical controls systems to include emergency generators, building automation control systems, fire alarms, fuel systems, Alber UPS batteries and electrical SCADA systems.

  • Maintains, tests, and operates electrical distribution equipment including switchgear, breakers, PDUs and other electrical distribution from 18kv to 120v in accordance with electrical and local building codes and USAA standards.

  • Assists the preparation of cable designs and providing installations for cabling projects including air blown fiber, Cat5 and other cabling.

  • Review critical systems cable design plans to ensure cable standards are met.

  • Monitors and adjusts equipment to recommended or prescribed operating ranges with the ability to switch to backup equipment or systems.

  • Responds to alarms and abnormal conditions in critical areas when alerted by the Building Management System (BMS), client, building security and/or facility management personnel during and outside normal business hours.

  • Utilizes Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage all planned and unplanned work.

  • Creates and revises operating procedures, preventive maintenance inspections, and perform quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and continual improvement.

  • Provide knowledge as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on building mechanical, electrical, cabling, and fire life safety systems.

  • Specific expertise should include: electrical distribution and layout, Transformers, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Generators, Switchgear, Uninterruptable Power Suppliers (UPS), VRLA/Flooded cell batteries, Transfer Switches Power Distribution Units (PDU), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Chilled Water Systems, CRAC/CRAHs, and Fire Sprinklers.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, or applicable Trade School/Technical Diploma required.

  • 2 or more years of work experience and capabilities in one or a combination of the following areas: Electrical or electronic systems maintenance and repair, HVAC or mechanical systems maintenance and repair, Cable design or installation maintaining critical facilities infrastructure in a 24x7 environment.

  • Good written and verbal technical proficiencies to support the creation and revision of process and maintenance documentation.

  • Ability to climb ladders and perform heavy lifting.

What sets you apart:

  • 5+ years of commercial/industrial physical plant experience.

  • Proficient working with commercial/industrial building automation systems.

  • Experience operating, maintaining and repairing large mechanical/HVAC equipment including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, diesel generators, and water treatment systems.

  • EPA Refrigerant Technician Universal Certification or any other relevant industry licenses/certifications.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $62,470.00 - $111,940.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
