You will perform risk assessments to manage Credit risk and ensure Moneris' credit exposure is within appetite. Applying expert judgement within the mandate level of authority is necessary and negotiate with merchants and providing support to your team. As a Specialist with higher approval authority levels you will approve Analyst risk assessments and provide training/ support to Analysts.
Location: You will be based in our Toronto office and will work in a hybrid model.
Reporting Relationship: You will report to the Manager, Credit SMB.

Salary Range: The expected base salary range for this role is $71,408 to $99,971.
Total compensation may also include variable or discretionary incentive components, including but not limited to bonuses and commissions. Individual job offers are determined by various factors, including experience, education, skills, certifications, and other business needs.
Underwrite complex business structures with high financial exposure and applying Moneris' Risk appetite.
Exercise appropriate underwriting criteria and due diligence to merchant applications following established credit policy and procedures to ensure all risks are managed. =
Analyze personal, business and financial information with high degree of competency and measuring counterparty credit strength against the estimated financial exposure.
Provide ongoing review of merchants in need of a limit increase or are flagged by Risk process specifically in payment processing volume, average/max transaction sizes, method of sale change, legal/ownership change, refund limits and structure change (re-adjudication).
Negotiate directly with clients in complex situations requiring explanation of specific credit policies and decisions related to those policies often involving discussions with counterparty senior management.
Ensure all accounts are being reviewed based on time/risk prioritization to align with Service level agreement targets.
Provide coaching and oversight/training to analysts regarding decision-making and any processes, procedures as set out in Moneris policy.
Exercise the Credit Specialist financial levels of authority for approvals and uplifting accounts from more junior underwriters with lesser financial authority level for the purposes of approving and signing-off.
Train and support all Credit Analysts. Help with daily audit reviews, communicate service levels and assist with productivity reporting activities.
Collaborate with all partners (such as Sales, ERM Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Clients) for the purposes of Credit training, fraud detection to monitor high risk accounts.
Be the subject matter expert, conduct user acceptance testing, and provide feedback during a change management lifecycle.
1+ years of experience as a credit analyst
3 or more years of experience reviewing personal credit bureaus, commercial credit bureaus and financial analysis.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field
Post graduate designation, professional accreditation or working toward/intent to pursue post graduate designation (MBA, CPA, CFA, CCP)
Previous experience in financial services and the payments industry.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows/ MS Office Applications (Excel Intermediate)
Visual Basic, SQL are considered an asset
Advanced financial statement analysis Fluent in English (reading, writing, and verbal). Bilingualism is an asset.
