Job Summary

Underwrites and provides recommendations on traditional commercial loan requests in accordance with MACU and NCUA rules and regulations; participates in team administration functions and all aspects of the CRE lending cycle.

SCHEDULE

Full Time

To be effective, an individual must be able to perform each job duty successfully: 

  • Underwrites traditional commercial loans; prepares credit presentations, documenting credit analyses and recommendation for credit decision to approving authority. 

  • Prepares timely, concise and accurate credit recommendations with supervision. Includes: (1) quantitative components within the underwriting narrative; (2) accurate use of risk rating scoring matrix, both quantitative and qualitative rating elements, to ensure loans are properly risk-rated; and (3) accurate identification and mitigation of risk, including all policy exceptions, procedures and compliance regulations. 

  • Has a general understanding of underwriting processes per MACU standards. 

  • Understands and demonstrates good written communication relating to credit presentations, addendums and other related forms of written communication. 

  • Analyzes repayment ability including business and personal cash flow. 

  • As applicable, performs financial ratio analysis comparative to industry standards. 

  • Performs financial stress testing analysis. 

  • Reviews and interprets personal and, as applicable, business credit reports. 

  • Prepares commitment letters. 

  • Reviews professional commercial real estate appraisals and associated third party reviews. 

  • Reviews professional environmental reports and assesses environmental risk. 

  • Analyzes commercial leases and or rent rolls. 

  • Assists with satisfying loan closing requirements.  

  • Reviews annual financials on existing loans and analyzes the risks associated with the borrower's financial condition, recommending risk-rating changes where appropriate. 

  • Ensures regular communication through the origination process with loan officers, management and team members. 

  • Supports team members to ensure excellent member service both internally and externally. 

  • Manages up to three loan requests at a given time. 

  • Works together with team members to accomplish monthly, quarterly and annual goals. 

  • Maintains working knowledge of MACU policies and procedures, adhering to industry lending regulations.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Experience  

One to two years lending experience in a progressive financial setting, working in a commercial setting preferred. 

 

Education  

Two-year degree from an accredited institution in business, finance, economics or related field or equivalent related lending/financial experience. Education will be verified.  

 

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations 

N/A 

 

Managerial Responsibility 

Has no supervisory/managerial responsibilities. 

 

Computer/Office Equipment Skills  

  • Experience with financial reporting or tax analysis software preferred. 

  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

 

Language Skills   

  • Ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations. 

  • Ability to present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders and all levels of the organization. 

  • Strong writing and grammatical skills relating to preparing credit memos, addendums, memorandums, and all forms of written communication.

  • Data analytics and data validation skills and proficiency in business data analysis (MS Excel, etc.).
