The Opportunity
Our Dispute Resolution group provides a comprehensive service for Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer's clients including the world's leading corporates and investment banks, governments and high-profile individuals.
We offer solutions to clients involved in disputes which are practical, competitive and commercially focused, drawing on our exceptional legal knowledge and in-depth industry sector experience.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail orientated Court Clerk to support the Disputes practice in our Hong Kong office.
Responsibilities of the role will include but not limited to:
• Working independently and closely with Legal Executive where required to provide timely and accurate support to partners and lawyers
• Drafting and reviewing court documents: Writ of Summons, Statement of Claim, Statement of Damages, List of Documents, Witness Statement, Revised Statement of Damages, Trial Bundle and basic correspondences
• Organizing court bundles to assist in preparation for hearings
• Coordinating pick-up and delivery of documents including filing and serving court documents in person
• Photocopying and scanning confidential files and documents and take responsibility for the same when outsourced
• Conducting basic searches on prospective litigants
• Liaising with various courts and agencies
• Maintaining proper filing of electronic and paper documents
• Maintaining and organizing case files and maintaining a record of all court proceedings
• Advise on court procedural matters
• Performing administrative and ad-hoc duties as required
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:
• At least 3 years of experience in supporting lawyers on court / litigation work
• Good knowledge of High Court Registry practices, the Rules of the High Court and High Court Practice Directions
• Good knowledge of court applications commonly involved in commercial proceedings and relevant procedures and paperwork, including applications for disclosure, injunction, summary judgment, default judgment, garnishee proceedings and charging order
• Ability to understand stakeholder's needs and provide suggestions for efficiencies and innovations
• Ability to think out-of-the-box to improve client experience, set high standards for quality and to work under pressure to meet demanding deadlines
• Ability to appropriately prioritise work and juggle multiple and competing deadlines
• Proven experience in working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
• Proven organisational skills
• Attention to detail
• Proficiency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin
• Proficiency in MS Office processing
• General understanding in iCMS
